VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA; Mitt Romney’s brother, George Scott Romney, 81, filed for divorce from his estranged wife just four months before her death.
According to the New York Post, court documents show that Scott tried to make sure his estranged wife wouldn’t get anything in the divorce.
Scott Romney is a Michigan attorney who previously ran for Michigan Attorney General and served on the Michigan State University Board of Trustees.
He initiated divorce proceedings against Carrie, 64, in June, citing “irreconcilable differences." The documents say the couple went their separate ways on May 25, and list the reasons for their divorce, as per the publication.

George Scott Romney sought to deny estranged wife any financial support before her death
In June, George Scott Romney filed for divorce from Carrie Elizabeth Romney, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to papers obtained by The Post.
The veteran attorney and former political candidate, asked the court to prevent either party from receiving spousal support during or after the divorce.
In his filing, he requested that the judge eliminate the option for either side to receive support at any point, noting, “Most of the assets and debts of the parties are separate property and were accumulated before marriage.”
Other court documents showed the couple had agreed to “mediate property and support.” Carrie, however, sought alimony and requested that Romney cover her legal fees. She also asked the court to restore her former last name, Dimas.
The divorce remained unresolved when Carrie’s body was found Friday night at the base of a parking garage in Valencia, about 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Ongoing divorce and longstanding family ties surround George Scott Romney and Carrie Romney
George Scott Romney had been married twice before his union with Carrie Elizabeth Romney. First to Ronna Romney from 1967 to 1992, and later to Sheri Jelalian from 2011 to 2016.
While Scott and Carrie had no children together, he has seven children from his previous marriages. The couple was married for just over eight years before separating in May, with Romney filing for divorce the following month.
Despite dating since at least 2012, Scott claimed in his court filing that the couple shared no property for the court to divide. Yet neighbors said the two had been living together at a $725,000 Valencia condo, where Carrie had been staying shortly before her death.
Investigators are continuing to determine whether her death was accidental or intentional, with the LA County medical examiner listing the cause of death as “deferred.”
