'Morning Joe’ compares DNC’s festive energy to RNC’s low-key vibe, calls it a 'tale of two roll calls'
WASHINGTON, DC: On Wednesday, 'Morning Joe' kicked off with a humorous video contrasting the vibrant energy of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) from the previous night with the more subdued mood of the Republican National Convention (RNC) held last month.
The video compilation showed enthusiastic attendees at the Democratic event in Chicago, celebrating with lively music and dance, in stark contrast to the subdued, polite applause at the GOP convention, according to the Daily Beast.
Mika Brzezinski highlights the contrast: 'A tale of two roll calls'
MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski captured the difference succinctly with, "A tale of two roll calls.”
“The Democratic National Convention transformed what is usually a mundane event into a lively party as delegates voiced their support for Vice President Harris,” Brzezinski remarked. “A DJ played popular tracks to represent each state and territory.”
Brzezinski further highlighted the excitement, noting, “When Georgia’s turn came, Atlanta’s renowned rapper Lil Jon performed his hit songs. And as Harris’ home state of California cast the final vote for her, the timing was impeccable, with Harris walking onto the stage in Milwaukee before a crowd of about 15,000.” She added that Harris addressed both venues simultaneously.
The show then featured footage of Harris’ speech, where she declared, “This is a people-powered campaign, and together, we will chart a new way forward,” prompting enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist react to the DNC’s high-energy roll call
In response, co-host Joe Scarborough exclaimed, “Wow. Just wow.” He turned to co-host Willie Geist, saying, “Willie, talk about a show of force, a show of power.”
Scarborough continued, “That was impressive. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that before. I mean, 15,000 in Milwaukee—just packed—and then, you know, in Chicago also at the convention. Wow, that was crazy.”
Geist concurred, “Yeah, 20,000 in Chicago, 15,000 in Milwaukee. Perfect stagecraft as well. By the way—when Lil Jon is doing your roll call for the state of Georgia you’re doing something right. And let’s not forget, Lil Jon [was] a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice Season 11, who has turned his back on Donald Trump.”
Geist also mentioned Lil Jon’s appearance on the show’s 13th season, noting the rapper's claim that Trump had used a racial slur against him. Trump denied the allegation and claimed ignorance of who Lil Jon was, despite their previous television appearances together.
