WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who recently returned from a trip to the Middle East, questioned President Donald Trump’s preparedness for the war with Iran and warned that Tehran was restarting its nuclear research activities.

Murphy’s comments came after Trump said on Truth Social that the US would not attack Iran before the November midterm elections. The president also reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to have nuclear weapons.

In the same post, Trump said discussions with Iran were “productive” and moving in the right direction, while emphasizing that the US blockade would remain in place.

Murphy says US bases were destroyed within days, questions Trump’s preparedness for Iran war

The Senator, who represents the people of Connecticut in Congress’ Upper Chamber, has just returned from his visit to the Middle East.

Sen. Chris Murphy said Trump was fundamentally unprepared for the Iran war, claiming that Iranian attacks destroyed key US air and naval bases in the region within days of the conflict starting.

Murphy said the "US no longer has a naval base in Bahrain and does not have an effective base in Qatar after Iranian attacks."

He added that the US should reconsider rebuilding its military facilities in the region if it cannot protect them.

The Democrat said Americans should be furious not only because US troops were killed but also because billions of dollars in taxpayer money had been wasted.

He also accused Trump of being incapable of protecting American personnel in the Middle East.

According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), the Pentagon’s official count of US military deaths linked to operations against Iran stood at 21 as of Friday, October 9, while 865 service members had been wounded.

Murphy claims Iran has restarted nuclear activities

After returning from his trip to meet with Qatari and Saudi partners, Murphy claimed that Iran is "restarting its nuclear research activities" and "missile programs."

“One of the primary sites in which we think they are digging underground they are restarting nuclear research activities.”

“If the Trump administration was trying to lose this war, they couldn't do worse than they are doing. This is a humiliation to the United States. The war is getting bigger and more dangerous, not smaller and more limited,” he said.

Murphy added that the Iran war could become a major reason for voters to remove lawmakers who supported the war from office in the November elections.
