'My wife didn't care about success': JD Vance hints at the path Usha helped him find

WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance said his wife, Usha Vance, never measured his worth by his career ambitions or public achievements and instead wanted him to become a “good man.”

In the preview of a Fox News interview set to air on Saturday, August 8, Vance opened up about the role his marriage played in his return to Christianity. 

He said that his desire to be a better husband and father ultimately became central to that journey.

Vance described Usha as someone who was never particularly concerned with whether he reached the highest levels of professional success.

“My wife didn’t care whether I was super successful, whether I became the vice president or a best-selling author or successful in business,” Vance said.

What mattered to her, he said, was much simpler. “She just wanted me to be a good man.”

Vance said that idea also shaped what he wanted from himself as their relationship developed.

“And I wanted to be a good husband and a good father,” he said.

He connected that desire directly to his religious journey, saying Christianity eventually provided an answer to something he had been searching for.

“And I felt like Christianity answered that yearning better than anything else that I saw in the world,” Vance said.

He stressed that his return to faith was not an overnight decision.

“And that really is what led me back, but it was a slow, slow process,” he said.

When SLOTUS opened up on her faith

Usha Vance has previously spoken about how her husband's religious journey affected their relationship, while making clear that she did not experience the same search for faith.

Earlier, in an interview with CBS reporter Robert Costa, she was asked whether Vance's decision to return to Christianity had influenced her own religious beliefs.

Usha, who was raised in a Hindu household, said her childhood gave her little reason to seek another faith.

“I grew up in a Hindu household that was a very stable household,” she said. “I have not felt the same need to seek something different that he has.”

She explained that the issue has instead become something they navigate together as a married couple.

JD Vance has previously said he spent years searching for something that felt “rooted” and “stable.”

JD and Usha Vance have been married since 2014 and are parents to four children.
