MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA: Rep Nancy Mace (R-SC) launched her bid for South Carolina governor with a fiery rally in Myrtle Beach, using the opening stop of her “Mother of All Town Halls” tour to tout her record, outline hardline conservative priorities, and lean heavily on her connection to President Donald Trump.

Energizing the crowd with calls for his endorsement, Mace framed herself as a relentless fighter for the state, vowing to shake up the political establishment and “never stop working.”

Nancy Mace leans on Donald Trump-style politics

Nancy Mace touted her record of standing alongside Donald Trump in political fights, portraying herself as a relentless defender against what she called partisan “witch hunts” targeting both of them.

“I’ve done a lot for the president, and if you talk to him, I would really like his support for governor,” she told the cheering crowd, adding, “I’m like Trump in high heels. I never stop working, I never stop fighting.”

She recounted helping secure Mike Johnson’s speakership by getting Trump on the phone with GOP holdouts, calling the former president “the one guy in the room that can bring all of us together.”

Mace pledged to cut state income taxes, fine businesses employing undocumented immigrants, and sign a state “bathroom bill” barring transgender women from using women’s facilities.

“I want to take what’s broken in South Carolina, burn it down to the ground, and build it right back up where it needs to be,” she told attendees. “You deserve someone who’s going to work 24/7. I don’t sleep… I love what I am doing.”

Internet mocks Nancy Mace as she dubs herself 'Trump in high heels'

Online reaction to Rep Nancy Mace’s gubernatorial campaign launch was swift and scathing, with critics zeroing in on her ties to Donald Trump and her shifting political stance.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "I suppose you believe the Epstein files are bulls**t, too!"

Another said, "That's not a compliment."

A person remarked, "Is that supposed to be a good thing? Donald Trump sucks for SC. Why would I want my governor to be the same?"

One more slammed, "'Trump in high heels' is the most pathetic, desperate line I've ever heard from a politician. Jfc lady, get it together."

"Nancy is like fellow worthless SC politician Lindsey Graham, going whichever way the political wind is blowing today. Go listen to Nancy post Jan 6 2021 & see how big a Trump stan she was then. Most of em are this way. Massie, Rand, MTG seem to be some of the very few good ones," read another tweet.

A lifelong Republican added, "You are as weak, mediocre, and mixed up as anyone could be. There is something horribly broken about you, and you should never be anywhere near a position of leadership."

Nancy Mace shifts toward Donald Trump alliance

While Donald Trump has yet to endorse a candidate in the South Carolina gubernatorial race, Nancy Mace’s pitch marks a notable shift from their rocky history.

After the January 6 Capitol attack, she criticized Trump’s role, saying his “entire legacy” had been “wiped out.” By 2024, however, she had endorsed his presidential run, and he in turn supported her congressional campaign.

Mace faces a competitive primary with South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt Gov Pamela Evette, and Rep Ralph Norman already in the race. She positioned her campaign as a grassroots fight for “ordinary South Carolinians,” contrasting her energetic style with what she cast as a complacent political establishment.

During the Q&A, Mace fielded questions on topics ranging from government waste to banning fluoride in water and the conspiracy theory about “chemtrails.” She also promised to remind Trump about his pledge to push for a tax credit on generators for flood-prone areas.
