WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) shed light on the contentious relationship between her and former president Donald Trump during his term in the White House, in her new book, 'The Art of Power: My Story as America's First Woman Speaker of the House', reported Fox News.

The book is published by Simon & Schuster and was released for sale on Tuesday, February 6. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, it details several political battles, including the passage of the Affordable Care Act and the government’s response to the 2008 financial crisis.

However, Pelosi also opened up about her personal life in the book, discussing the attack on her husband, Paul, at their San Francisco home in October, 2022. She spoke of the intrusive media coverage following the incident, stating, "It created a terrible and very difficult reaction for many in our family. The reporting was often incorrect and incomplete, and it would grow worse as the hours dragged on."

"I cannot even begin to describe how painful and devastating it was for them to learn of a vicious assault on their father or grandfather in this way," she wrote.

Nancy Pelosi's comments on Donald Trump in her book

"I’ve had a lot of conversations with this man, and at the end of nearly all of them, I think, ‘Either you are stupid, or you think that the rest of us are,’" Nancy Pelosi wrote about Donald Trump in her book, while discussing the phone conversation she had with the then-President before announcing that House Democrats were launching an impeachment inquiry into him over his phone call to Ukraine.

Pelosi claimed that Trump had called her to insist that he made a "perfect call" to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharing his allegations against business dealings of the Biden family. Trump "complained about how this announcement was happening today, the day when he was speaking to the UN General Assembly," she shared.

In a different section of the book, Pelosi took readers through her judgment call of tearing up Trump's State of the Union address live on-camera in 2020.

"I had intended to mark each page of the speech that contained a lie with a little tear in the paper so I could go back and easily find the pages. But as Trump continued speaking, it was not just one, two, three, or four pages with lies. It was pages and pages of them," she pointed out.
