WASHINGTON, DC: Nancy Pelosi applauded the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) for blocking President Donald Trump’s tariff policy. She described Trump as “reckless,” called the policy “unconstitutional,” and said it was “costly.”

Pelosi added that the court’s order was clear and praised the justices, saying they have “rightfully” struck the policy down. In a 6-3 ruling, the court determined that the president had exceeded his authority. Meanwhile, Trump criticized the Supreme Court for overturning his policy and said that he will impose 10% tariff policy.

Nancy Pelosi slams Trump, praises Supreme Court decision

On Friday, February 20, Nancy Pelosi shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Trump’s sweeping tariffs were reckless, unconstitutional and costly for America's working families."

Pelosi called the ruling a big win for businesses and states that fought the tariffs. She said it could lead to billions in refunds and showed that the president’s power has limits.

"Today, the Supreme Court rightfully struck them down, upholding the Constitution and rejecting an abuse of executive power that unlawfully taxed millions of Americans," she added.  "The Court was clear. Tariffs cannot be enacted without the explicit authorization of Congress." she concluded.

Democrats hail Supreme Court ruling as GOP splits over Trump’s tariff policy

Congressional Democrats celebrated after the Supreme Court struck down a large portion of Trump’s tariff agenda. “Trump’s chaotic and illegal tariff tax made life more expensive and our economy more unstable. Families paid more. Small businesses and farmers got squeezed. Markets swung wildly,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer,  said in a statement after the decision.

“SCOTUS’s outrageous ruling handcuffs our fight against unfair trade that has devastated American workers for decades. These tariffs protected jobs, revived manufacturing, and forced cheaters like China to pay up,” Bernie Moreno said.

“This betrayal must be reversed and Republicans must get to work immediately on a reconciliation bill to codify the tariffs that had made our country the hottest country on earth!” Moreno continued.

Rand Paul, who opposed Trump’s tariffs with Democrats, praised the ruling. He said Congress, not the president, controls taxes and tariffs.

“In defense of our Republic, the Supreme Court struck down using emergency powers to enact taxes,” Paul posted. “This ruling will also prevent a future President such as AOC from using emergency powers to enact socialism.”

Don Bacon and Steven Horsford have also shared their views, expressing their thoughts on the Supreme Court’s decision to reject Trump’s tariff policy.
