Nancy Pelosi publicly shades NY Gov Kathy Hochul, blames her for House midterm losses
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Former speaker Nancy Pelosi linked governor Kathy Hochul with Democrats' midterm losses in a recent public interview.
Speaking at a Politico forum on Thursday, August 22, she was asked about the party losing the majority of the House in the 2022 elections.
“I think it related to the gubernatorial race,” referring to Hochul’s narrow win to former GOP Republican Lee Zeldin and allegedly dragging down Democrats in many tough New York congressional races.
Kathy Hochul's response to Nancy Pelosi's statement
During the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans managed to snatch four New York House seats from Democrats.
Interestingly, when Kathy Hochul was asked to respond to Nancy Pelosi’s comment on Friday, August 23, she responded, “I just don’t agree with that. That’s fine."
She added, “We are going to win this on the ground because I know how to do this.”
“I now have the chance to focus on this. I’m not a candidate myself this year, so I can laser focus on these races, the Hudson Valley, Syracuse, Central New York, all the way to the tip of Long Island. We’re going to win these races and win strong,” Hochul emphasized.
Despite the loss, Zeldin won nearly 47 percent of the vote in deep blue New York.
"There's no way that we would have been able to get this close to 50% without being able to successfully connect with so many people who have in the past voted Democrat," he said back then.
Recently, Pelosi was recorded saying to Mike Lawler (R-NY) that he must thank Hochul for his victory in 2022 against Sean Patrick Maloney.
“I think it’s clear that Democrats in both Washington and New York think Kathy Hochul is feckless and inept. Pelosi said publicly what Democrats say privately and know to be true,” Lawler told the New York Post.
The Hudson Valley representative called Hochul’s DNC speech cringe, “She’s driving the state ever downward and it’s such an embarrassment.”
Nancy Pelosi on relationship with Joe Biden amid POTUS' withdrawal from election
MEAWW previously reported that Nancy Pelosi has expressed hope that she can maintain a relationship with President Joe Biden, especially after she played a major role in pushing him to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
In a recent interview with MSNBC, Nancy Pelosi shared how hopeful she is for speaking with Biden.
“Well, I hope so,” Pelosi said when asked about her intentions to speak with Biden. “But again, that was then. This is now. We have to go forward and use all of our energy not reviewing the past, but going forward to win this election.”
