NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Pro-Trump analyst Lee Zeldin found himself in hot water when he was asked to address former president Donald Trump’s approach to political violence in an interview with CNN.

As the clip went viral, Zeldin faced a wave of criticism and trolling on social media, highlighting the contentious nature of Trump's rhetoric and the challenges his allies face in defending it, as reported by Mediaite.

Lee Zeldin beats around the bush when asked if Donald Trump discourages political violence

As anticipation builds for the upcoming presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, scheduled for June 27, media coverage has intensified.

The debate, moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, marks an unprecedentedly early general election face-off. In the lead-up, pundits have been busy speculating and advising on the candidates' strategies.

On Tuesday, June 25, CNN's Kasie Hunt hosted Zeldin, a staunch Trump supporter, for a segment of pre-debate commentary.

Hunt asked Zeldin how Trump should handle questions about the January 6 riot and his use of inflammatory rhetoric. Zeldin, who was physically attacked during a 2022 campaign event, seemed particularly suited to address the issue.

When Hunt directly asked if Trump discourages political violence, Zeldin's response was notably vague and indirect. "Do you think Donald Trump is living up to what you say, that leaders should use rhetoric that discourages political violence?" Hunt enquired.

"Well, listen, there’s a lot that I would say, you know, as far as President Trump, what he has said, stuff that President Biden has said, that is not maybe you know, what my particular style is, but President Trump is a fighter," Zeldin stated.

"You know, he is, he is on offense. I’m sure he’ll be on offense again on Thursday.… Again, not just talking about what, I, my preference is for that positive, uplifting message. But I do think that a lot of people also want to see that contrast outlined. And this is high stakes. Talking about the president of the United States," he added.

Recently, Zeldin made headlines for his comments on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s decision to drop charges against many pro-Palestinian protestors involved in a Columbia University demonstration, according to The Hill.

On Fox News’s 'Fox and Friends', Zeldin slammed Bragg, stating, "There is no justice system when you have Alvin Bragg as your prosecutor... this is another day of disappointment."

Lee Zeldin trolled for failing to answer question about Donald Trump's stance on political violence

The internet brutally slammed Lee Zeldin's CNN appearance and his non-answer about Donald Trump's stance on political violence.

One of the readers took to the Mediate article and said, "MAGA cowards can't defend what Trump says without inventing more unrelated BS." While another remarked, "Imagine calling Trump a fighter when he was too much of a coward to testify in his own criminal case."

One person wrote, "Trump is a whiny trust fund baby who demands to be coddled. It's well past the point of being pathetic." Another posted, "That was nearly a solid minute of babbling idiocy that imparted exactly zero information and had nothing to do with answering the question."

One individual commented, "That was a whole lotta word salad to avoid answering the question..." Another added, "Zeldin thought he was gonna be governor of NY. LMAO what a clown."

One person stated, "MAGA is an organization that thrives on violence."

Another added, "Zeldin is trash, a s**tty congressman and a shitty human being. New Yorkers wisely destroyed his candidacy for governor."
