WASHINGTON, DC: Nancy Pelosi recently posted her views as tensions grow between President Donald Trump and NATO, with global concerns also rising over Iran. She criticized Trump’s stance, arguing it prioritizes short-term thinking while overlooking long-term risks to international security. Pelosi also warned that such a position could ultimately benefit Vladimir Putin.

Her remarks came after Trump suggested the US could go further than simply reconsidering its NATO membership, saying it may go “beyond reconsideration.” So far, neither Trump nor his officials have responded publicly to Pelosi’s comments, and the White House has not issued any statement on the matter.

Nancy Pelosi slams Donald Trump

Nancy Pelosi on Saturday sharply criticized Donald Trump over his comments on NATO, warning that his approach could have serious consequences for global security. Pelosi, who has frequently taken aim at Trump and his administration, said his position reflects short-term thinking and overlooks broader risks.

In a post on X, she wrote, "77 years ago, America and our allies came together to form NATO-an alliance rooted in peace & democracy. Trump's threats to leave are not only shortsighted, they're a gift to Vladimir Putin. The law is clear: No President can withdraw from NATO without Congressional approval," she said.

Her remarks come as questions grow about the future of NATO, the military alliance formed to deter aggression and maintain stability among Western nations. The US has long played a central role in the alliance, which relies on unity among its members.

A reduction in US involvement could weaken the alliance’s effectiveness, lowering deterrence and potentially giving Russia more room to expand its influence.

Trump’s frustration with NATO over Iran tensions helps explain Nancy Pelosi’s remarks

Nancy Pelosi’s statement is not sudden but comes as tensions grow between Trump and NATO. Trump has been upset that NATO members did not support the US during its conflict with Iran.

He has called NATO “a paper tiger” and said leaving the alliance was “beyond reconsideration,” suggesting his position is firm. Trump has also argued that NATO does not protect the US the same way the US supports Europe, pointing to the lack of backing during the Iran situation and limited action around the Strait of Hormuz

Although NATO countries have backed US-led efforts in the past, including the war in Afghanistan, it is important to note that the US remains at the core of NATO. The US provides nuclear protection to its allies.

It also operates several military bases across Europe, especially in Germany. In addition, key sites like the Incirlik airbase in Turkey play a major role in deterring potential threats.
