National Mall evacuated as severe weather disrupts preparations for Trump’s America 250 rally
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's plans to celebrate America's 250th anniversary hit an unexpected setback on Saturday, July 4, after severe storms approaching Washington forced organizers to evacuate the National Mall ahead of the scheduled America 250 celebration.
Thousands had gathered for the event when organizers announced that attendees needed to leave the area and seek shelter as storm conditions worsened.

Severe storms force precautionary evacuation
Freedom 250 organizers confirmed the evacuation in a statement as dark clouds gathered over Washington.
"Freedom 250 will share updates on programming and doors reopening," Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said while urging attendees to seek shelter in nearby museums and federal buildings around the National Mall.

Washington's Metro system also announced that several underground stations would be available for people looking for shelter until conditions improved.
The evacuation came as a precaution while officials monitored the weather before deciding whether the celebration could continue.
Organizers monitor weather as celebrations face disruption
The weather briefly interrupted one of the biggest events planned to mark America's 250th anniversary of independence.
While organizers paused activities in Washington, they said updates on reopening and the event schedule would be shared once it was safe to resume.
The America 250 celebration had been planned for months and was expected to draw large crowds for President Trump's rally on the National Mall.
Fourth of July events continue elsewhere
Despite the disruption in Washington, Independence Day celebrations continued in several other cities across the country.
Fireworks displays remained on schedule in cities including Chicago and New York.
Earlier in the day, tall ships sailed past the Statue of Liberty, recalling the celebrations held during America's 200th anniversary in 1976.
The milestone holiday has been anticipated throughout the year, with communities planning events to mark 250 years of American independence.
However, organizers in several places have had to adjust their plans as parts of the East Coast dealt with extreme heat and severe weather.
In Washington, officials remained focused on public safety while monitoring the storms and preparing to provide updates on when attendees could safely return to the National Mall.
The evacuation temporarily interrupted one of the day's biggest celebrations, with organizers stressing that further announcements would be made as weather conditions improved.
