Netanyahu signals escalation after Trump warning as Israel targets Iran’s railways and bridges
WASHINGTON, DC: Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces struck railways and bridges across Iran on Tuesday, April 7, marking a new phase in the ongoing conflict.
In a video message, Netanyahu said the targets were infrastructure used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to transport weapons, materials, and personnel.
Netanyahu says focus on military supply lines
“Yesterday, our pilots destroyed transport aircraft and dozens of helicopters,” Netanyahu said, adding that Tuesday’s strikes were aimed at disrupting logistics networks used for military operations.
He accused Iranian operatives of targeting Israel, the United States, and regional countries, while also “oppressing the Iranian people.”
Netanyahu stressed that the attacks were “not intended to target the Iranian people.”
The Israel Defense Forces later said it struck eight bridges used to move weapons and military equipment, including in cities such as Tehran, Karaj, Tabriz, Kashan, and Qom. The military said precision munitions and aerial surveillance were used to limit civilian harm.
Strikes were also reported across multiple railway lines, with two people killed in an attack on a bridge in Kashan, according to local media reports.
The attacks followed warnings from the Israeli military advising civilians to avoid trains and railway infrastructure for 12 hours.
Strikes follow Trump deadline pressure
The escalation comes hours before a deadline set by Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face potential US strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Trump had earlier warned of unprecedented attacks, including threats targeting power plants and bridges, and later escalated rhetoric by saying “a whole civilization will die tonight,” intensifying global concern over the conflict’s trajectory.
