WASHINTON, DC: Against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's closely watched two-day trip to China, his second son, Eric Trump, who oversees family businesses, revealed that the Trump family’s political future may extend beyond Donald Trump.
Eric Trump also refused to rule out the possibility of him or Lara entering politics in the future.
Eric Trump says family prepared for political future
Appearing on the 'Hang Out with Sean Hannity' podcast, aboard Air Force One, Eric Trump revealed that after surviving multiple assassination attempts and years of what they describe as legal "lawfare," the Trump family is prepared for whatever comes next in the political arena.
Eric and his wife, Lara Lea Trump, gave an interview during their trip to China as they accompanied Donald Trump to Beijing for the highly anticipated summit with Xi Jinping, which concluded on Friday, May 15.
"I would never rule anything out," Eric Trump told Hannity when asked about a potential bid for the presidency. "I can tell you we've seen the best of it, and we've seen the worst of it."
"I've seen six months of courtrooms where people are trying to destroy you and your entire family. If you go into this game, you better be ready for it. You better have your family ready for it because they're coming, and they're coming in ways you can't even imagine," he added.
Lara Trump says 'deep state' attacks made family resilient
Lara Lea Trump, Eric’s wife, who served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee through the 2024 election, thought similarly to her husband and affirmed that the “deep state” attacks had made the family more resilient.
"If you continue to rub your hands, you get a callus. You continue to beat somebody enough, you develop a thick skin, and we have all developed such thick skin that I almost don't think there's anything they could throw in any of our way,” Lara said.
Lara Trump keeps door open to become the 'first female president'
When asked about whether she would personally like to become the first female president, Lara Trump kept the door “wide open” for the entire family.
"I wouldn't rule it out for anyone in the family," she said. "Despite knowing absolutely nothing about politics when this whole thing started, we got a quick lesson."
Eric Trump and Lara Lea Trump joined President Donald Trump on the highly watched trip to China in their personal capacity.
The trip marked the first such visit by any US president since 2017, when Trump traveled to China during his first tenure as president. The last time a Chinese president visited America was in 2015, when Xi Jinping traveled to America during Barack Obama’s presidency.
