New video shows final moments of Houston ICE shooting, raises questions over agents' version
HOUSTON, TEXAS: Fresh surveillance footage has brought renewed attention to the fatal ICE shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, offering a minute-by-minute look at his final movements before federal agents opened fire.
The video, aired by CNN on Saturday, July 11, traces the Mexican national’s drive through the city as multiple unmarked vehicles closed in on him.
The newly surfaced visuals have intensified questions about whether the events unfolded as immigration officials described.
Surveillance footage captures final moments
The newly broadcast security footage pieces together Salgado Araujo’s movements from the time he left home until seconds before the confrontation that ended his life.
According to the recordings, Salgado Araujo stepped out of his residence shortly before 6 am and prepared to leave in his van.
Roughly an hour later, another camera captured him driving through a neighborhood while an unmarked vehicle followed behind.
As the route continued, additional footage showed more unmarked vehicles joining the pursuit.

The recordings, stitched together from multiple homes and businesses, documented the convoy growing larger moments before the shooting took place.
The final available clips ended shortly before agents fired at Salgado Araujo.
Footage contradicts ICE's version
Federal immigration authorities have maintained that agents acted in self-defense during the encounter.
According to ICE, Salgado Araujo allegedly attempted to drive his van toward officers, creating an immediate threat that prompted agents to open fire.
He was later transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Officials have also said Salgado Araujo was in the country illegally, though reports indicate he had no criminal convictions.
The official explanation has been challenged by those representing the three men who were inside the van with Salgado Araujo.

Attorney Hugo Balderas-Ibarra said his clients insist that no federal agent was ever standing directly in front of the vehicle or placed in imminent danger before shots were fired.
He argued that the government's version of events did not match what the passengers witnessed and called the claim that agents were forced to shoot inaccurate.
The case has also drawn criticism from community members and immigrant-rights advocates, who have questioned whether deadly force was justified.
Salgado Araujo's family has also challenged the portrayal of the incident.

His son, Ronaldo Salgado, said his father had been trying to regularize his immigration status and suggested he may not have realized the people following him were federal officers because they were in unmarked vehicles.
He described his father as a hardworking businessman and family man, saying he deserved to be remembered for his life rather than solely for the circumstances of his death.
