WASHINGTON, DC: Former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich lauded President Donald Trump as a global statesman, comparing him to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill following the US-mediated peace deal between Israel and Hamas. If successful, the deal could become a landmark in Middle East diplomacy and elevate Trump’s global stature.

In a Fox News interview, Gingrich said, "I think President Trump is now moving into being a world figure in the sense that President Franklin Roosevelt and Prime Minister Winston Churchill were.

He is orchestrating the major Arab states in support of a peace agreement and is applying enough pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu that the Israelis will comply, whether they want to or not.

As a result, he is forging peace through his personality and ability to build friendships. If this works—and I suspect it will—you will see a moment in history that puts him in the same league as Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill."

Announcement of the peace deal

On Wednesday, October 8, Trump announced the peace deal on Truth Social, “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace

All parties will be treated fairly. This is a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, all surrounding nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event happen.

He concluded by saying, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS! DONALD J. TRUMP PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

On Thursday, October 9, Trump told Fox News in an exclusive interview, “It’s a great honor to be involved in it. The whole world came together—so many countries you wouldn’t have expected sent their best wishes and commitment to do whatever is necessary.

The surrounding countries all signed on. It’s truly been an amazing period. So great for Israel, for Muslims, for the Arab countries, and for this country."
