LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rapper Nicki Minaj ripped California Gov Gavin Newsom on Monday, February 23, over his remarks at a recent book tour.

The Grammy-nominated rapper took aim at Newsom after the Democratic governor made self-deprecating comments about himself while previewing his upcoming memoir 'Young Man in a Hurry' at an event in Atlanta on Sunday.

Nicki Minaj tears into Gavin Newsom over approach toward Black people

During a book tour appearance with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens at the Rialto Center for the Arts in Georgia, Newsom said, "I'm not, you know, I'm not trying to impress you, I'm just trying to impress upon you, I'm like you. I'm no better than you."

"You know, I'm a 960 SAT guy. And, you know, and I'm not trying to offend anyone, you know, ‘trying to act all there if you got 940,’" he continued. "Literally a 960 SAT guy, you’ve never seen me read a speech. Because I cannot read a speech. Maybe the wrong business to be in."

Minaj, who has recently ramped up her public support for Trump and even described herself as his “number one fan,” lashed out against Newsom.

“His way of bonding with black ppl is to tell them how stupid he is & that he can’t read. This means my first read on him was correct. He’s been handed so many things & put in high positions he never earned or deserved,” she wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Do you wanna know the craziest part of this footage that will haunt him forever? He’s literally slowing his speech down & talking in a sporadic cadence,” Minaj added. “He’s not just TELLING them that they’re all probably stupid & probably can’t read, he’s LITERALLY SLOW-ING-DOWN-HIS-SPEECH to make them understand the words that are coming out of his mouth!!!! As if they’re children!!!!”

Gavin Newsom fires back following outrage over SAT remarks

The backlash didn’t stop with Minaj. Trump loyalists and conservative commentators also seized on the moment.

The annual meeting of political and business leaders comes amid rising tensions between the United States and Europe over a range of issues, including Trump's vow to acquire Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory. “@GavinNewsom Thinks a 960 SAT Makes Him ‘Like’ Black Americans. Let That Sink In,” Fox veteran anchor Sean Hannity wrote.

Newsom’s office rushed to defend the governor.

"First MAGA mocked his dyslexia and now they’re calling him racist for talking about his low SAT scores. This is MAGA-manufactured outrage," spokesperson Izzy Gardon said in a statement. "The Governor has said this publicly for years — including with Charlie Kirk and dozens of other audiences. The same people who excused or ignored Trump’s racist ape video can go f**k themselves."

Newsom himself insisted his remarks were not meant to offend anyone, saying they were simply a reflection of his lifelong struggle with dyslexia.

Responding to Hannity, Newsom wrote, “You didn’t give a s**t about the President of the United States of America posting an ape video of President Obama or calling African nations s**tholes — but you’re going to call me racist for talking about my lifelong struggle with dyslexia?”

“Spare me your fake f**king outrage, Sean,” he added.

Newsom’s memoir, 'Young Man in a Hurry', is scheduled for release on Tuesday.
