WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump Jr mocked California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying he is “having trouble reading the room” and expressing disbelief that the situation is real and not AI.
The comments came after Newsom spoke at an event in Atlanta while promoting his memoir, where he opened up about his past struggles with dyslexia, a low SAT score of 960, and difficulties reading written speeches due to his learning disability.
Don Jr mocks Gavin Newsom’s way of relating to people
Donald Trump Jr posted a new clip criticizing Gavin Newsom over the recent viral video of him discussing his academic struggles. Trump Jr said the governor was trying too hard to connect with voters by highlighting his low SAT score and reading challenges.
He began, "Really try to bond with the group by saying that he had low SAT scores and can't read. I mean. I literally am this."
He added that when he first heard the clip, he thought it was generated by artificial intelligence. “Like, okay, I gotta ask my team because I thought it was AI. Is it real? It's, it's. I mean, it's really bad.”
Trump Jr further mocked Newsom’s way of relating to people, quoting the governor’s words about his SAT performance and literacy. “He’s like, I go. I got like a 960 SAT, like, I can't read. I mean, he's literally trying to bond with people by being, like, hey. I'm stupid, and I can't be illiterate, like? Uh, and, and I quote, I'm one of y'all,” he said.
He doubled down on his disbelief and criticism, painting Newsom’s approach as misguided. “I mean, I. I can't believe that's not a deep fake. I mean, talk about racism. I mean, that's how he wants to bond with someone by literally being, like, yeah, okay, banned. I'm stupid and illiterate. I'm just like you. I mean, think of imagining if I said that,” Trump Jr added.
Gavin Newsom says 'I'm a 960 SAT guy' at his Atlanta book tour
‼️ In his first in-person State of the State address after snubbing his citizens for years, @GavinNewsom starts off by making an excuse for it: “My inability to read written text” & his “960 SAT score.”

Gavin Newsom tried to connect with an audience during his Atlanta book tour stop by pointing to his own low standardized test scores and saying that he “cannot read a speech.”
“I'm not trying to impress you,” Newsom told Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens on Sunday. “I'm just trying to impress upon you: I'm like you. I'm no better than you. You know, I'm a 960 SAT guy.”
“And, I'm not trying to offend anyone, trying to act all there if you got 940,” he added. Data from the National Center for Education Statistics shows that in the 1980s, when Newsom would have taken the test, the average SAT score was around 900. Modern tests, which use a recentered scale, have an average score of 1010, according to research by The College Board.
“Literally a 960 guy, I can't – you've never seen me read a speech, because I cannot read a speech: maybe the wrong business to be in,” he continued. Newsom also shared his personal experience living with dyslexia, a learning disability that affects how a person processes written words.
“My dyslexia, I haven't overcome dyslexia, I'm living with it,” he said. “I was a guy in the back of the classroom, my head down, just praying the teacher didn't call on me.”
He further described reports from doctors detailing his struggles. “I never realized – I was going after school three days a week – I didn't know what for,” he said, noting that his “mom was furious” when she learned he “has quote, unquote dyslexia.”
“Because she didn't want that to limit me. She didn't want that to be an excuse,” he said.
