WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump Jr became butt of many jokes after he teased a future run for the presidency, acknowledging “that calling is there.”

President Donald Trump’s eldest son was speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum on Wednesday, May 21, when he was asked whether he would “pick up the reins” after his father leaves the White House following his second term.

The 47-year-old is considered a leading player in the MAGA movement and is viewed as a possible heir to his father's political legacy, according to Politico.

He currently serves as executive vice president of the Trump Organization, but also plays a role in weeding out potential hires deemed insufficiently loyal to his cause.

Donald Trump Jr teased potential presidential run

At the Qatar Economic Forum, Bloomberg moderator Joumanna Nasr Bercetche asked Donald Trump Jr about his interest in attempting to succeed his father in the White House.

“Here we go. Well… oh boy,” he chuckled in response, triggering a muffled applause from the audience. “It’s an honour to be asked and an honor to see that some people are OK with it,” he continued, according to the Independent.

“So the answer is: I don’t know, maybe one day. You know, that calling is there. I’ll always be very active in terms of being a vocal proponent of these things. I think my father has truly changed the Republican Party,” he added.

Trump Jr stated that having a two-pronged approach to the presidency is "fundamentally important." He also highlighted the obvious political work, and also the fight against the “woke ideology” that he claims has taken over corporate America.

Apart from politics, Trump Jr is currently focusing more on the business front. He has joined at least eight corporate boards or advisory committees since his father won the election last year.

Donald Trump Jr trolled as he teases presidential run

Donald Trump Jr was met with fierce trolling as he teased a future White House run. “He can run under the nepotism party because that's all he's got,” one user wrote on X.

“Who truly would vote for this loser? Even MAGA has principles... At times,” another user joked.

“Does Donald Trump, Jr. know he's eminently unlikable and doesn't possess the kind of personality his father has?” one person asked.

"No one is calling him. It’s the voices in his head," another remarked.

"Idiot son thinks he has any right to the White House…laughable," one individual commented.

"He’s such a disgusting individual and I doubt he can carry the maga crowd like his father," another declared.

"It will be a generational never ending siege of the country," one netizen added.

Donald Trump Jr has 'zero interest' in a 2028 run

Soon after Donald Trump Jr's comments about a potential presidential run started making rounds online, he came out to confirm that he has no interest in running for the White House in 2028.

"And FWIW, I've always said, while I'll never 100% rule it out down the line, I have ZERO interest in running for office in 28 or anytime soon," he said in a post on X.

In March, Trump Jr denied another report that he was considering running for president in 2028, pointing out that he was a key figure in getting his father to pick JD Vance as vice president, whom he described as “an instant power player” in the Republican Party.

Despite being barred by the constitution from holding office for a third term, Trump Jr has also stoked speculations that his father could run again in 2028.
