WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump thanked Iran for providing the US and its allies with an advance warning of a retaliatory missile strike on the US’s key air base in Qatar.

Iran carried out missile attacks at the al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American base in West Asia, on Monday, June 23, the Iranian armed forces said in a statement, adding that "they will not leave any attack on Iranian territory go unanswered under any circumstances".

The attacks were a retaliation for American airstrikes ordered by Trump on Iran’s three key nuclear facilities. Iran’s top security official claimed that their armed forces used the same number of bombs that the US had used in its attack.

Donald Trump thanks Iran for an ‘early notice’ but also delivers a subtle jibe

On Monday, the 79-year-old president took to his Truth Social to thank Iran for the early notice but also delivered a subtle jibe, claiming that the Iranian response to the US “obliteration" of its nuclear facilities was “very weak."

"Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was “set free,” because it was headed in a non-threatening direction,” he wrote in his post.

Trump went on to say that the strike caused almost no damage and that no Americans were hurt.

“I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done. Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their “system,” and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured,” he added.

Trump stated that Iran may be able to "now proceed to Peace and Harmony" and that he will encourage Israel to do the same.

"Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the president concluded.

In a separate post, Trump commended the Emir of Qatar for attempting to promote calm in the region.

"I’d like to thank the Highly Respected Emir of Qatar for all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region. Regarding the attack today at the American Base in Qatar, I am pleased to report that, in addition to no Americans being killed or wounded, very importantly, there have also been no Qataris killed or wounded. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the Commander-in-Chief wrote.

Donald Trump declares Iran-Israel ceasefire

Following this, Donald Trump announced in a series of tweets that a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran would go into effect to stop the confrontation between the two countries.

"CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”

“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

However, Iranian officials denied the ceasefire claims, stating that it did not receive any ceasefire proposal from the US, which calls for a truce.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated on X that there is "no agreement as of now."

"As of now, there is NO "agreement" on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards. The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later," he wrote.
