NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Decades after first receiving credible tips about Jeffrey Epstein's alleged sex trafficking of underage girls, the FBI is finally facing intense scrutiny and legal reckoning for allegedly enabling the financier's years of appalling abuse.

In a bombshell lawsuit filed this week, a group of twelve Jane Doe victims accused the bureau of turning a blind eye to Epstein's reported exploitative crimes for over 20 years, as per the New York Post.

The victims assert that the FBI neglected its duties by dismissing early warnings, failing to fully investigate Epstein, and declining to share information with local law enforcement that could have spared countless young women and exposed Epstein’s alleged criminal syndicate much sooner.

The victims allege that the FBI repeatedly ignored credible tips about Epstein's alleged abuse of young women and girls dating back to 1996 and failed to properly investigate the financier until 2019, just one month before his death.

As outlined in the complaint filed Wednesday, February 14, in federal court in Manhattan, the victims claim the FBI could have stopped Epstein much earlier if they had acted on the information they received.

Instead, they argue, the FBI's negligence and failure to share key information with other law enforcement agencies allowed Epstein’s alleged criminal sex trafficking operation to carry on abusing more victims.

The lawsuit states the FBI finally began an investigation into Epstein in 2006 but abruptly ended it two years later in 2008 after Epstein agreed to plead guilty to relatively minor Florida state prostitution charges.

Lawsuit seeks damages from US government and aims to expose full extent of FBI’s failure

Shockingly, the FBI continued ignoring additional tips and warnings about Epstein’s alleged rampant sexual abuse of minors until his eventual arrest over a decade later in July 2019. Epstein died by suicide approximately one month after his arrest while in federal custody.

"As a direct and proximate cause of the FBI’s negligence, plaintiffs would not have continued to be sex trafficked, abused, raped, tortured and threatened," the complaint states. "Jane Does 1-12 bring this lawsuit to get to the bottom — once and for all — of the FBI’s role in Epstein’s criminal sex trafficking ring."

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages from the US government and aims to expose the full extent of the FBI’s failure to apprehend Epstein over 20+ years.
