'No woman is safe': Newsom's wife torches Trump's 'patriarchal' politics after Bondi's ouster

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Siebel Newsom, filmmaker and wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, is drawing sharp reactions after delivering a sweeping and highly charged take on the removal of former Attorney General Pam Bondi.

In a lengthy video she released via Instagram on Friday, April 3, Newsom framed Bondi’s exit as part of what she called a broader “war on women,” a claim that critics say stretches far beyond the facts.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom began by acknowledging she is “not a fan” of Bondi, but quickly pivoted to a much larger claim.

“Trust me, I'm not a fan of Pam Bondi nor Kristi Noem. But I need to call out that it's no surprise to me that the first two prominent people pushed out of this administration were women,” she said.

From there, her argument expanded into a broader critique of conservative women in politics.

“The conservative women that Trump handpicks, align themselves with an agenda that controls women, restricting our rights, limiting our autonomy,” she said, before describing a system that she claimed forced women into “a straitjacket of femininity in service of men.”

She went even further, suggesting that women in such roles were ultimately disposable.

“Now it looks like power, but it never comes with job security and protection,” she argued, adding, “There's no secure place inside this handpicked patriarchal body that systemically disrespects, devalues, and discriminates against women and girls.”

"No woman is safe in Trump's Republican party unless she has enough wealth or the ability to buy her own job security and safety," she added.

She closed with a dramatic claim, saying, “It’s a war on all women.”

Not a one-off for Jennifer Newsom

Newsom’s latest comments are not the first time she has sparked debate with unconventional takes on gender and society.

She previously went viral for describing how she was raising her children in ways meant to challenge traditional norms, comments that also drew mixed reactions online.

“I’ve given our boys dolls even if they tear the head off to learn that care and caregiving is not just an activity reserved for women,” she said in one clip.

In another moment that caught attention, she added, “If I’m reading a book and the protagonist is a male, I just change the ‘he’ to a ‘she’. It normalizes for my sons that women can be the center of a story.”
