NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Singer Olivia Rodrigo has openly shown her support for people protesting in Minnesota after a fatal incident involving federal immigration agents sparked major unrest.

On her Instagram Stories, she criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), describing the agency as “a m*rderous federal agency terrorizing an American city.” Rodrigo urged her followers to take action, including contacting their senators to oppose further ICE funding, and shared tips on how to do so.

She ended her message with clear support for Minnesota, writing, “ICE actions are incalculable but we are not powerless. Our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota.”

Rodrigo’s posts highlighted ICE’s recent operations and called them “unconscionable.” She encouraged fans to take action against federal funding increases for the agency, emphasizing the role of public engagement in holding lawmakers accountable. Other artists, including Doja Cat, have also spoken out, joining Rodrigo in condemning the agency’s actions.

In follow-up Stories, Rodrigo shared practical instructions on the easiest ways to call senators about ICE. Her posts were a mix of criticism and civic guidance, showing her intent to empower her audience to influence policy.

 Fatal incident in Minneapolis sparks protests

Rodrigo’s statements came after a deadly encounter in Minneapolis, where federal immigration agents shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an intensive care nurse. The incident led to significant protests and national attention, highlighting tensions between federal enforcement and public response in the city.

Kristi Noem defends federal agents

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the agents, saying, “Individuals showed up to impede a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers.” She added, “Responded according to their training, and took action to defend the officer’s life and those of the public around him.”



Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino said the situation “looked like an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.” Officials noted around 200 people obstructed law enforcement and engaged in assaults, stressing the need for state and local cooperation.
