WASHINGTON, DC: When President Donald Trump returned to the White House from Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, March 2, he was accompanied by a few unexpected guests.

Images shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed tech billionaire and DOGE head Elon Musk, his mother Maye Musk, and his son X Æ A-12 traveling aboard the president’s Marine One helicopter.

In addition to the Musks, Melania Trump's father, Viktor Knavs, was part of the entourage. This caused outrage on social media. Musk's critics complained about his family receiving a "free ride" on Air Force One and Marine One.

As President Donald Trump returned to the White House, official images shared online showed Elon Musk, his son, and his mother visible through the windows of Marine One as it landed on the South Lawn.

The journey involved a helicopter ride from Mar-a-Lago to a Florida airport, a flight on Air Force One to a military base near Washington, DC, and another helicopter ride to the White House, as per Daily Mail.

Upon landing, Knavs exited the helicopter with Trump and walked into the White House with him. Musk, holding his son on his shoulders, waved to cameras as his mother walked beside him, also waving.

Maye Musk took to X to share a video of her son and Trump surprising guests at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, commenting on the excitement and joy in the room.

She wrote, “It was wonderful to experience the excitement and happiness in the room,” accompanied by heart-eyes emojis.

While the exact reason for her trip to the White House remains unclear, it may be related to the president's scheduled address to Congress on Tuesday, March 4. If Musk attends the speech, he could have brought his mother along as a guest.

Since Trump's win in the 2024 election, Maye Musk's public profile has risen, especially as her son continues to play a significant advisory role in the current administration.

Elon Musk slammed for taking mom and son on 'free ride' aboard Donald Trump's Marine One

Critics of Elon Musk took to social media to express their outrage over the DOGE head taking his mother and son on a "free ride" aboard Marine One, which is paid for by taxpayers, after the videos and photos of their arrival at the White House went viral.

Democratic political strategist Chris Jackson shared the photos on X and wrote, “This is beyond outrageous. Elon Musk, his cranky mother Maye, and one of his young kids were chauffeured in Air Force One and Marine One—straight to the White House, where they’re apparently staying.”

Another social media user said, "Except he's not actually paying for any of it. On the contrary, he's being awarded government contracts left right and centre. Well played, US... "
