WASHINGTON, DC: Former communications director of Vice President Kamala Harris, Jamal Simmons, suggested incumbent Joe Biden step down and instate his second-in-command as POTUS, while discussing President-elect Donald Trump's upcoming transition to the White House on CNN on Sunday, November 10.

Biden was rumored to step down from the Oval Office after his abysmal debate performance against Trump back in June, as the then-presumptive Democratic nominee.

However, he had laid those rumors to rest in subsequent interviews. Biden did suspend his reelection campaign the following month and endorsed Kamala Harris instead.

Jamal Simmons remarks on CNN

Jamal Simmons' bold suggestion for Joe Biden to instate Kamala Harris as President with weeks remaining of his term surprised the panelists on CNN, including network host Dana Bash, according to Mediaite.

"Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president, he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure. He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States," stated Simmons.

As his fellow panelists audibly expressed their shock, he continued, "It would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6th transition, right, of her own defeat. And it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things the public want to see — this is the time, this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate."

“OK, this has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show! Congratulations!” exclaimed Bash, as conservative commentator Scott Jennings quipped, "Jamal’s out here writing a season of 'House of Cards!'”

Later in the day, Simmons reaffirmed his stance on the social media platform X, writing, "Dems have better policies but we must realize the old rules no longer apply. We are not playing table tennis. We are in a mixed martial arts fight and Americans respond to drama and excitement. We should use that to make our arguments for a better path forward."

Internet reacts to Jamal Simmons's suggestion

Netizens slammed Jamal Simmons' view as "beyond absurd" while reacting on the social media platform X. The following tweets demonstrate the predominant takes.

"The idea of Biden stepping down to let Kamala Harris briefly hold the presidency is beyond absurd... The presidency of the United States is not a consolation prize handed over to someone who lost decisively... Suggesting Harris should take on the role as a symbolic gesture is outright disrespectful to the office and dismissive of American voters, who already made their choice clear," wrote a user.

"They want to give her a participation trophy," shared another.

"CNN broadcasting mental disorders 24 hours a day," quipped a third.

"Because they didn't humiliate Biden enough?" chided a fourth.

"You can already tell the Dems haven't learned a single thing from the election," noted a fifth.

"It was a landslide victory for Trump! Yet the left has no clue just what a total knock out punch it is and their ideas & policies! This is just another example of their inability to accept reality!" mocked a sixth.

"This is how they treat their president, these people have no shame! With friends like this who needs enemies? SAD!" stated yet another.
