MULLICA HILL, NEW JERSEY: Inspira Health, a hospital system in New Jersey, has triggered outrage across social media by asking new parents about the sexual orientation of their babies in a questionnaire.

According to the New York Post, the organization created a form titled 'Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Questionnaire' that asks parents about their baby's sex assigned at birth, followed by whether they identify the infants as either “Male, Female, Transgender, Gender Queer,” or “Additional gender category.”

The form also brings up the baby's sexual orientation, asking parents to select which of the following choices best describe their baby—"Lesbian or gay, Straight or heterosexual, Self-described, Questioning/Unsure.”

The form was reportedly created in 2024 to comply with a recent state law that required healthcare providers “to collect race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity in a culturally competent and sensitive manner.”

NJ GOP lawmaker moves against 'nonsensical' questionnaire

Republican New Jersey Senator Holly Schepisi plans to introduce legislation to exempt minors from answering questions about their preferred gender or sexual orientation after she saw the viral questionnaire circulating on social media, Fox News reported on Wednesday, March 19.

Speaking with the publication, the mother of two shared that she was skeptical of the form at first as she found it "outrageous" and "nonsensical."

However, after her staff confirmed that it was real, Schepisi set to work on legislation that would create an exemption for minors in the state’s medical records law and hopes to secure bipartisan support for her efforts.

"I did have quite a few conversations over the past week bringing this issue to some of my Democratic colleagues’ attention, and, you know, their response was pretty much the same as a lot of people out in the public, like, ‘We're doing what?’" she told Fox News.
