Outrage as Steve Bannon denies ‘retribution’ if Trump re-elected but names individuals who could be probed
WASHINGTON, DC: Former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who is set to begin a prison sentence, has outlined a controversial agenda should the ex-president secure a second term.
Speaking on ABC's 'This Week', Bannon dismissed concerns over Trump's "retribution", emphasizing a call for justice through rigorous investigations.
“If you haven’t done anything, you shouldn’t worry,” he asserted, “What we’re saying is we want justice. We want to have full investigations, and then if criminal charges come up, then criminal charges come up,” he added.
Steve Bannon calls for Donald Trump's foes to be investigated
Steve Bannon highlighted a list of prominent figures from previous administrations to be investigated, including former FBI directors Andrew McCabe and James Comey, ex-secretary of defense Mark Esper, former attorney general Bill Barr, and former joint chiefs chair Mark Milley.
"It's justice," Bannon emphasized, defending the necessity of scrutinizing individuals appointed during Trump's first term. “It’s not retribution at all,” he added, dismissing Trump's previous pledges to retaliate against his supporters. “Like he said last night on the debate stage, his retribution is a very successful, more successful second term,” Bannon claimed.
Bannon's imminent imprisonment for contempt of Congress, stemming from defiance of a subpoena by the House Jan. 6 committee, has not tempered his resolve.
Labeling himself a "political prisoner", Bannon remains steadfast and unapologetic for his actions. “It won’t change me. It will not suppress my voice. My voice will not be suppressed when I’m there,” he said.
“If it took me going to prison to finally get the House to start to move, to start to delegitimize the illegitimate J6 committee, then, hey, guess what, my going to prison is worth it."
House leaders, led by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La), recently announced support for Bannon's appeal, challenging his conviction in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Despite facing legal repercussions, Bannon remains resolute in his belief that his sacrifices will expose what he perceives as the committee's illegitimacy.
Internet reacts to Steve Bannon's plans for investigation of Donald Trump's political foes
Steve Bannon's announcement of potential investigations into Donald Trump-era figures has sparked a heated debate on social media.
One social media user tweeted, "Accountability & Justice would be nice."
Another said, "ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC! BANNON GOING TO PRISON FOR TRUMP TO ENJOY LIFE!"
One person asked, "Is it a little list? Retribution would be a problem, but simply enforcing the law equally will be fair enough, eh?"
"Yes, if they broke the law then he should go after them in a court of law, remember no one is above the law, call it what you want retribution or whatever but if they did nothing wrong they should have nothing to worry about," read another response.
"We the people demand the left who have obvious crimes be investigated and prosecuted. It is only fair!" one individual wrote.
