WASHINGTON, DC: Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed on Monday, August 18, that residents of Washington, DC, are whispering their gratitude to federalized police because they’re thrilled to see them on the streets rooting out crime.

This follows a similar claim she made on August 15, when she said DC residents were coming out of their homes to thank officers after President Donald Trump's decision to federalize the city’s police force.

Pam Bondi says officers told her people are saying 'thank you'

During an interview on Fox Business, Bondi told host Larry Kudlow, “Our law enforcement officers are telling us that people are coming up to them on the street. They said a lot of people are walking by, whispering, saying, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’”

She added, “They’re hearing stories every single day and night of people saying they feel safe now to walk in their own neighborhoods because of what our great men and women of law enforcement are doing at the directive of the president.”

Larry Kudlow quipped, “And going out to dinner, according to the president.”

His remark referenced a statement Trump made during a Q&A session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. On Monday, Trump said, “The press says, ‘He’s a dictator, he’s trying to take over.’ No, all I want is security for our people. But people who haven’t gone out to dinner in Washington, DC, in two years are going out to dinner, and the restaurants the last two days were busier than they’ve been in a long time."

“Friends are calling me up — Democrats are calling me up — and they’re saying, ‘Sir, we want to thank you. My wife and I went out to dinner last night for the first time in four years, and Washington, DC, is safe, and you did that in four days.’”

Earlier this month, Trump deployed federal law enforcement and National Guard troops to DC under a public safety emergency.WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 14: Members of the National Guard stand outside Union Station on August 14, 2025 in Washington, DC. However, The Hill reported Monday that data from OpenTable showed seated diners in Washington had actually dropped compared to last year. On Wednesday, reservations were down 31 percent, and Saturday saw a 20 percent decline.
