WASHINGTON, DC: Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered a grand jury investigation into whether Barack Obama administration officials broke federal laws in their handling of the probe into Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election, a senior Donald Trump administration official said.

The move follows criminal referrals sent last month by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who accused former President Barack Obama and top officials of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy” against Donald Trump.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that individual judges cannot grant nationwide injunctions to block executive orders, including the injunction on President Trump’s effort to eliminate birthright citizenship in the U.S. The justices did not rule on Trump’s order to end birthright citizenship but stopped his order from taking effect for 30 days. Pam Bondi acts on Pam Gabbard’s ‘treason’ referrals

Pam Bondi’s one-page directive instructs an unnamed federal prosecutor to begin presenting evidence to a grand jury for potential indictments. The DOJ declined to comment, and no timeline or targets have been publicly disclosed.

Gabbard recently declassified and released documents she claims show “manufactured and politicized intelligence” during the Obama years. Fox News, which first reported the order, said Bondi believed the referrals raised “clear cause for deep concern.”

Democratic lawmakers have accused the Trump administration of weaponizing government powers to distract from controversies, including the Jeffrey Epstein files.

A former senior Justice Department official called the order “a dangerous political stunt,” while another ex-security official said there was “no logical, rational basis for this.”

A 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report, signed by then-acting chair Marco Rubio, found “irrefutable evidence of Russian meddling” but no Obama-era conspiracy against Trump.

Special counsel John Durham similarly found the FBI lacked sufficient evidence to launch its original Trump-Russia probe but did not find any criminal plot by Obama officials.

Pam Bondi's grand jury move sparks fierce reaction

Online commenters were sharply split on the Daily Mail comments section, with some celebrating a long-awaited reckoning for Barack Obama-era officials and others dismissing the probe as political theatre.

One wrote, “TIME to PAY the PIPER. The Woke Conspirators thought they got away with it, but now they’re going to PRISON,” while another said, “Obama was never voted in for his integrity and ability, if this is true......he needs to face the consequences.”

A person remarked, “Keep smiling Obama. Your reputation is being destroyed from your own doing,” whereas someone else added, “I wonder how President Barack Hussein Obama’s Secret Service team can protect him inside the Big House.”

Others insisted the move was a deliberate smokescreen to draw attention away from the unreleased Epstein files and broader economic concerns.

“Another distraction from the Epstein files and price increases," read a comment, with one more saying, “Trump promised to release the Epstein Files and now he wants us to forget it all happened? Not a chance.” Trump Allies Push Forward Amid Grand Jury Mystery.

Pam Bondi's order targets Russia probe origins

Former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-DNI James Clapper have denied wrongdoing, reiterating in a New York Times op-ed that John Durham “found no evidence” supporting claims of a Barack Obama conspiracy.

Still, Bondi’s order advances a Trump-backed effort to revisit the 2016 intelligence findings.

Sen Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) recently published documents linked to Durham’s classified annex after FBI Director Kash Patel allegedly uncovered bags of files that were slated for destruction. Supporters of Bondi’s move argue these documents show efforts by Hillary Clinton to tie Trump to Russia.

While Bondi’s order does not seek charges against Obama himself, who is protected by a Supreme Court ruling on former presidents’ immunity, sources speculate ex-officials like Brennan and James Comey could face scrutiny.

Whether the grand jury ultimately issues indictments remains unclear as the Justice Department prepares to present evidence behind closed doors.
