Pam Bondi ousted as AG sparks rare bipartisan reaction after Donald Trump confirms move
WASHINGTON, DC: Pam Bondi’s removal as attorney general has sparked an unusual moment in Washington, DC with reactions pouring in from both Republicans and Democrats - many of them surprisingly aligned.
The development was confirmed on Thursday, April 2nd, when multiple outlets, citing White House officials, reported that President Donald Trump had fired Bondi and initiated the search for her replacement.
Trump later addressed the move publicly, offering praise for Bondi even as he confirmed her departure.
Donald Trump confirms Pam Bondi’s exit with praise
In a statement, Trump struck a notably positive tone while announcing the transition, describing Bondi as both loyal and effective in her role.
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump said.
He went on to highlight her work at the Department of Justice, crediting her with overseeing a crackdown on crime.
“Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900,” he added.
Trump also confirmed that Bondi would be moving into a new role outside government, though details have not yet been announced.
“We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future,” he said.
In the meantime, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has stepped in as acting attorney general while a permanent replacement is considered.
Lawmakers across parties react to Bondi’s departure
Despite Trump’s praise, early reactions from across the political spectrum suggest that Bondi’s exit has been met with a degree of relief in Washington.
At a time when bipartisan agreement is rare, her departure appears to have drawn positive responses from both sides of the aisle.
Some Republicans who had previously voiced concerns about Bondi’s handling of certain high-profile matters welcomed the news of her removal.
"Some of us have been critical of how the DOJ bungled the Epstein stuff and has failed to aggressively prosecute left wing extremists, among other failures. We were shouted down by other influencers on this site who insist that everything is fine and the administration should never be criticized under any circumstance. Will those people apologize now and admit we were actually right about Bondi? Of course not. Rhetorical question.", author Matt Welsh wrote on X.

Her tenure had faced criticism over how certain records tied to Jeffrey Epstein were managed, which had become a point of frustration for some within her own party.
Rep. Nancy Mace was among those who reacted quickly, expressing optimism about who might step into the role next.
"If the reports that Lee Zeldin will be replacing Pam Bondi as Attorney General are true - I welcome it. Bondi handled the Epstein Files in a terrible manner and made this situation far worse than it had to be for President Trump. I look forward to a new Attorney General committed to getting justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein.", she wrote.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who pushed legislation to release the Epstein files, shared a poll asking if Trump was right to fire Bondi, and a strong majority responded “yes.”
"I support Trump firing Pam Bondi. Do you? I hope the next AG will release all the Epstein files according to the law and follow up with investigations, prosecutions, and arrests.", he tweeted.

Do you?
I hope the next AG will release all the Epstein files according to the law and follow up with investigations, prosecutions, and arrests.
Democrats also welcomed news of Bondi being removed.
"Attorney General Pam Bondi has been leading a White House cover-up of the Epstein files. She has weaponized the Department of Justice to protect Donald Trump and put survivors in harm's way by exposing their identities. She will not escape accountability and remains legally obligated to appear before our Committee under oath.
She must answer for her mishandling of the Epstein files and the special treatment she has given Ghislaine Maxwell. Oversight Democrats have been leading serious investigations into Bondi and Secretary Kristi Noem. If they think we are moving on because they were fired, they are gravely mistaken. Statement from Ranking Member Rep Robert Garcia on Pam Bondi's recent firing.", Ranking Member Rep RobertGarcia wrote in a statement.

Rep Shontel Brown sharply criticized Pam Bondi’s tenure, accusing her of misusing the DOJ while demanding the release of the Epstein files.
"Instead of upholding the law, Pam Bondi weaponized the DOJ to avoid accountability, break the law, and go after Trump’s political enemies. She should be fired. But then again, she never should have been hired.", she said.
"Oh, and one more thing: RELEASE. THE. EPSTEIN. FILES.", she added.

Rep Ted Lieu mocked Pam Bondi in a post, suggesting a made-up “prestigious” role for her.
"Dear @WhiteHouse: Pam Bondi would be wonderful at the super prestigious position you can create called the “Very Special Attorney General for the Shield of the Americas.”, he wrote while tagging White House in the post.

Potential replacement speculation gains momentum
Attention has already begun shifting toward who could replace Bondi, with speculation building in political circles.
Rep. Nancy Mace pointed to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin as a possible choice, indicating support for the idea of him stepping into the attorney general role.
While no official decision has been announced, the early mention of potential successors highlights how quickly the focus has moved from Bondi’s exit to what comes next.
For now, Todd Blanche will continue serving in an acting capacity as the administration weighs its options.
