Paris Jackson shares rare update on bond with father Michael Jackson: 'I'm in a very beautiful spot'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paris Jackson made it clear that she is no longer willing to put her personal relationship with her late father, Michael Jackson, on public display. The 29-year-old opened up about being in a “beautiful spot” with her father while insisting that it is “no one’s business.”
Paris said that while she previously felt pressure to explain herself publicly, she no longer believes she owes anyone an explanation about her bond with the King of Pop.
"I'm not going to express my love in a copycat way, copying someone that didn't know him," she said. "Because I did. That was my best friend." Her comments gained further attention following the release of the 'Michael' movie.
Paris Jackson says bond with Michael Jackson is ‘no one’s business’
Paris opened up about her bond with her late father during an appearance on the 'Trying Not to Die' podcast, saying she is now in a “beautiful spot” with him.
The 29-year-old said that growing up as the daughter of one of the world’s biggest stars made her feel like she "owed" people insight into her personal life after Jackson died in 2009. However, she explained that her perspective has changed in recent years.
"There's definitely a certain element where I felt I had to share everything," she said on Jack Osbourne's podcast on Tuesday, May 26. "And that has drastically changed in the last few years, because I don't really feel like any of us owe anyone anything."
Paris added that the shift also changed the way she uses social media. She said she no longer feels pressure to post personal tributes about her father on occasions such as his birthday, Father's Day or the anniversary of his death in June.
"I'm now like, my relationship is the most beautiful relationship ever," she said. "I'm in a very beautiful spot with my dad, and I love that, and it's no one's business, and I don't have to share that with anybody. And there's a lot of freedom in that, which is really cool."
Paris Jackson opens up about Michael Jackson’s influence
During the same interview, Paris Jackson spoke about growing up in the spotlight and said her father made sure she understood the importance of hard work despite her privileged upbringing. She shared that Jackson always encouraged discipline and productivity.
"There was a lot about my upbringing that was silver spoon-esque, but there was so much of it that had to be earned. Like there was very much a focus on developing a work ethic," she said.
"And so I did see something recently where it's like, ‘You don't have to work,' and it's like no, I do. I really do. Because I'm like a shark. If I stop moving, I'll die. It makes me happy to move and work and be productive."
