PARIS, FRANCE: Russell Crowe appeared visibly frustrated outside his Paris hotel after a crowd of fans seeking autographs reportedly pushed too close while trying to approach him, prompting the actor to firmly address the gathering and warn them to keep their distance.

The moment quickly reignited memories of several of Crowe’s past public confrontations and interview clashes over the years. He is also currently attached to the upcoming ‘Highlander’ reboot starring Henry Cavill, where he is set to portray the iconic character Ramirez, a role originally made famous by Sean Connery in the 1986 film.

Crowe firmly warned the crowd to keep their distance, saying, “Stay where you are, don’t push in on me. I’ll come to you. Give everyone space,” while also making it clear he would leave immediately if anyone didn't behave, adding, “I’m gone. We clear?”

The situation reportedly became more uncomfortable when one fan requested a special autograph, which the actor immediately refused. He has frequently made headlines over the years for tense moments during interviews and public appearances.

One of the most memorable incidents took place in 2010 while he was promoting ‘Robin Hood’ at the Cannes Film Festival during a BBC interview. The interview became uncomfortable after a British reporter suggested his "accent in the film sounded Irish."

He immediately fired back, “You've got dead ears, mate, seriously dead ears if you think there's an Irish accent.” When the journalist followed up by asking whether the accent was northern English instead, he sarcastically responded, “No, I was going for an Italian, yeah. Missed it?”

The conversation only worsened after the reporter brought up a line from ‘Gladiator,’ prompting him to abruptly walk out while saying, “I don't get the Irish thing by the way.” Crowe was also reportedly involved in another heated moment during a Q&A event in New York for his TV series ‘The Loudest Voice,’ in which he portrayed former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.

According to the New York Post, the actor became upset after producers wanted host Ricky Camilleri to introduce him in a way that cast Ailes negatively, following the harassment allegations that led to his resignation from Fox News in 2016. However, his spokesperson denied the accusations, stating the claims were “not correct” and insisting “Russell did not ‘freak out.’”

It remains unclear why Crowe is currently in Paris, although one possibility is the upcoming ‘Highlander’ reboot alongside Cavill. He has joined the Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists production as Ramirez, the mentor role originally played by Connery.

The reboot is directed by Chad Stahelski and also stars Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Irons. In a recent interview with ‘60 Minutes Australia’, Crowe reflected on the unusual backstory attached to the character in the original movie.

He said, “The character’s name is Ramirez and Sean played the character brilliantly, obviously, as a Scotsman. But they explain the reason that Ramirez, the Spaniard, had a Scottish accent in the movie by saying that earlier he came from Egypt!”

Crowe then recalled discussing accents with director Ridley Scott during rehearsals for ‘Gladiator.’ According to the actor, he suggested that Maximus should sound Spanish because the character was from Spain, describing the idea as “Antonio Banderas with slightly better elocution.”

He laughed while remembering Scott’s blunt reaction: “There’s no way that you’re doing that.” The actor said they ultimately settled on an accent he later described as “Royal Shakespeare Company two pints after lunch.” Amazon MGM has not yet confirmed an official release date for the reboot, although industry observers expect the film to arrive sometime in late 2027.
