'Pathological liar': Internet trolls Matt Gaetz for claiming he has never been accused of any wrongdoing

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz was trolled online for his recent interview on CNN, where he claimed that he had never been publicly accused of any wrongdoing.

The US Representative from Florida is reportedly under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over allegations which include sexual misconduct, according to CBS News.

What has Rep Matt Gaetz been accused of?

The accusations leveled against the Congressman link him to serious offenses such as sex trafficking and sleeping with a minor.

Gaetz had come under federal investigation in 2021 when the Justice Department tried to determine whether he had sex with a 17-year-old. Multiple sources claimed that Gaetz had met the woman through his associate and former Florida county tax collector, Joel Greenberg.

In May 2021, Greenberg pleaded guilty to six federal charges which included trafficking, while the Justice Department declined to press charges against Gaetz in 2023.

In a clip of a CNN interview that went viral after being posted online on Monday, May 6, Gaetz is seen talking about former GOP Speaker Kevin McCarthy before bringing himself into the conversation.

"Look, I am the most investigated man in Congress," he says. "There is not a single human being who has publicly accused me of any wrongdoing of any kind."

"And at what point after these things have been said about me for years and years, and not a single person has accused me of wrongdoing, does this sort of become a strange urban legend?" asks the legislator.
