Kevin Spacey says he had thought of better ways to come out before sexual misconduct allegations surfaced
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A new documentary reportedly detailing the alleged sexually inappropriate behavior of Kevin Spacey is set to premiere on Monday, May 6.
The two-part Channel 4 documentary, 'Spacey Unmasked', includes previously unheard testimonies of 10 individuals against the 64-year-old actor, as per Variety.
Kevin Spacey says his coming out was 'terribly timed'
Ahead of the documentary's release, Spacey sat down for an interview with podcaster Dan Wootton, who asked him about his "infamous" coming out comment, as reported by The Wrap.
The BAFTA Award winner in 2017 reportedly said, "I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life and choose now to live as a gay man," after being accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp.
Spacey was, however, found not liable in Rapp's civil suit over the allegation. In a separate action, he was ordered to pay Media Rights Capital (MRC), the production company of 'House of Cards', $31 million for violating the company's sexual harassment policy
'The House of Cards' actor told Wootton, "Oh you mean when I tripped over my hockey stick and came tumbling out of the closet?" before noting, "It was terribly timed and thought out.”
He also mentioned that he and his manager, Evan Lowenstein, were working on "finding a way out of the closet."
"But after being fiercely closeted for so long I had no idea what awaited me on the side of that door so, we were looking for a subtle way in which to be able to reveal myself without making too much of a big deal about it," disclosed Spacey.
Kevin Spacey reveals how he wanted to come out
Spacey thought of disclosing the truth about his sexuality if he won an Emmy in 2016 or 2017.
During the podcast, interview, He explained, "The Emmy is a female statue, it’s not like the Oscar or the Tony, which are male statues I have been fortunate to have won. I would take a hold of the trophy and look at it briefly and then say, ‘It sure is nice to hold a woman for a change.’ Unfortunately, I didn’t win the Emmy in 2016 or in 2017."
Referring to his infamous coming out statement, Spacey shared, "Against better advice from Evan and others, I decided to come crashing out of the closet, because I’d already made the decision to come out."
Spacey was accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp shortly after the 2017 Emmys ceremony.
He subsequently asserted, "Of course, I’m so ignorant about all things gay that the only thing that occurs to selfish me is that some guy is accusing me of something and so I’m being outed."

Another coming-out idea Sacey thought about surrounded a Netflix biopic about the late writer Gore Vidal that was never aired.
He noted, "This was also another way we thought I could begin to reveal some of who I was by playing a character that was, well, not such a stretch for me," referring to Vidal being openly gay.
