White House increases pressure over SAVE Act delay
During the press conference on Thursday, July 23, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the president’s patience was wearing thin over the SAVE America Act delay.
The administration is pressing Senate Republicans to pass as much of the legislation as possible before the August recess, intensifying pressure on GOP leadership.
"His patience is RUNNING OUT. He wants to see as much of the SAVE America passed as possible by the August recess,” Karoline Leavitt said during Thursday’s briefing.
Leavitt said that Americans want voter IDs “because voter ID is common sense. They want proof of citizenship in our election.”
"The House did its job. The Senate needs to do its job, too," she added.
Trump pushes SAVE Act into budget bill
“I am asking all House Republicans to VOTE YES this week on the Budget Resolution, which is an important first step towards getting a Budget Bill,” President Trump wrote on social media on July 20.
In his post, Trump also pushed for aspects of the SAVE America Act to be packaged in the budget bill.
“We need Voter Photo ID (Identification!), Proof of Citizenship and, hopefully, No Corrupt Mail In Ballots (except for illness, disability, Military, or travel),” Trump wrote.
“House Republicans must UNIFY, and fight for THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,” the president added later in the post.

What is SAVE America Act
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, sometimes referred to as the SAVE America Act, is a proposed US federal bill that would require documented proof of US citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
The legislation would require individuals to present specific documents, such as a US passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers, to register.
It would also mandate that states require strict photo identification to vote in person or by absentee ballot, and would require states to hand over voter registration rolls to federal databases for citizenship verification.
