WASHINGTON, DC: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, in an attempt to take a swipe at Donald Trump, stated on social media platform X on Friday, June 26, that the former president showed 'weakness' by not agreeing to debate Vice President Kamala Harris in September.

Trump was scheduled to debate President Joe Biden on September 10 before he stepped down from the presidential race on July 21 and nominated Harris as his replacement.

Pete Buttigieg posted on X, "Has a presidential nominee ever agreed to a debate, then pulled out? Remarkable show of weakness here," while sharing a post by Sam Stein that read "Trump camp says he's backing out of the debates."

During an interview on MSNBC’s 'Morning Joe', Buttigieg commented, "Tough talk is this guy’s calling card and now there’s this extraordinary show of weakness. He said anytime, anyplace, but more than that, he agreed to this specific debate, on this specific network, on this specific date, and now he’s pulling out."

However, Trump mentioned earlier this week that he would be willing to debate Vice President Harris more than once before their 2024 presidential election.

Trump informed Fox News' Bill Melugin, "Absolutely. I'd want to. I think it's important. I would be willing to do more than one debate, actually. I haven’t agreed to anything. I agreed to a debate with Joe Biden."

However, the Trump campaign announced on Thursday, July 25, that he would not take part in a debate until Democrats choose their nominee, citing that it "would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds."

Internet lambasts Pete Buttigieg for mocking Donald Trump over debate with Kamala Harris

Many internet users lambasted Pete Buttigieg after he posted on social media that Donald Trump had shown 'weakness' by not agreeing to debate Vice President Kamala Harris in September.

A user commented on X, "Show the agreement with Kamala, Pete, or get back to work and fix the airports," while one added, "Afraid of what exactly? Kamala's stellar career in politics or all her amazing accomplishments? LOL."

A person also stated, "Oh, she's the nominee? How many votes did she get in the Dem primaries again?" whereas one mentioned, "Because you backed out of a real candidate, voted in by the American people. We don’t crown a candidate, we vote."

A user added, "Has a Presumptive nominee ever backed out with only 100 days to go?" while one said, "Has a party ever nominated someone that NEVER received a single vote in a primary?"

A person also wrote, "This isn't even a good lie, Pete. Try again" whereas one stated, "Trump just got all you idiots to demand more debates. This won’t end well for Kamala."
