TUCSON, ARIZONA: Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos gave an update on the missing case of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, on Thursday, February 5, confirming the presence of a trail of blood at her house.
The official, however, also noted that the probe is in a “waiting” period and they have yet to find a suspect in the case. Nancy, 84, was last seen on January 31. She was reported missing on the afternoon of February 1 after she missed her regular church service.
Sheriff Chris Nanos confirms blood found belonged to Nancy Guthrie
Speaking with the media during a press conference, Nanos said, “We’re at that phase now where sometimes we are waiting. We’re waiting for analysis. We’re waiting for lab reports. Even then when they come back quickly.”
Revealing further, the cop noted, “For example, some DNA, we rushed what we thought was the best target for DNA, we did a rush through and got some of that back. The results were minimal. I think you all know the blood on the porch, that was one we did. It came back to Nancy. That’s what we know.”
But Nanos also shared that “there’s still more items that are being submitted,” as he added, “we are not sitting on our haunches waiting. We have a number of leads coming in and that’s why we brought in the FBI.”
Sheriff Chris Nanos claims they have yet to identify 'a person of interest'
Regarding the identification of the suspect, the sheriff mentioned that they’re still working on it.
“I know there’s been a lot out there about suspects and I want to be very clear at this time we have not identified a suspect or a person of interest in this case. We are working our best to do that,” he stated.
Nanos also mentioned that his team has “nobody of interest or any suspects that you would consider a prime suspect. We are just not there. We are not there yet.”
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings plead with abductors to send proof of life
This came after Nancy’s children issued a heartbreaking video plea to their mother’s alleged kidnappers on Wednesday.
Savannah posted the video on her Instagram, captioning it, “Bring her home,” which shows her as well as her siblings, Annie and Camron Guthrie.
In the clip, the ‘Today’ host said, “As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated.”
“We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us,” she added.
Savannah Guthrie's brother tells alleged kidnappers 'we are waiting for contact'
A day later, another video was shared from Savannah Guthrie’s social media account, where her brother was heard saying, “We want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward.”
Camron also urged the kidnappers to confirm that they “have our mom. We want to talk to you, and we are waiting for contact.”
