MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Anne Hathaway was moved to tears during her Monday, July 20, appearance on 'The View' after host Whoopi Goldberg surprised the actress with a heartfelt tribute while she was promoting 'The Odyssey.'

Hathaway appeared alongside co-star Matt Damon and director Christopher Nolan to reflect on the record-breaking blockbuster, but the conversation quickly turned personal as Goldberg praised her journey as an actress.

Whoopi Goldberg's tribute moves Anne Hathaway

During the interview, Goldberg reflected on watching Hathaway's career evolve over the years. “Anne Hathaway, it’s been wonderful watching you,” she told the actress, who recently announced she is expecting her third child after leading 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' to strong box office numbers in May.

She continued, “It’s been wonderful watching you grow up. And you have just blossomed, turned into this fabulous actress.”

Hathaway immediately responded, “No, don’t!” while clasping her hands over her face as Goldberg continued praising her.

“Girl! Yes! Yes! You need to know. You need to know,” Goldberg repeated, as Hathaway lowered her head toward the show's Hot Topics table and cried. “I’d be crying [even] if I wasn’t pregnant right now!” she joked, while Goldberg once again reminded her that “it’s something you need to know and remember.”

Before turning to praise Damon as well, Hathaway thanked Goldberg for her heartfelt words. “I don’t even know what to say, you know how I feel about you,” she told Goldberg, visibly emotional.

The emotional moment came shortly after Hathaway also became tearful during an appearance on the 'Today' show while promoting 'The Odyssey.' Host Craig Melvin surprised the actress with a baby gift after learning she is expecting her third child.

“We wanted to celebrate you and celebrate your bun there in the oven, so we got you a baby gift,” Melvin said before revealing an Odyssey-inspired present. He added, “When the child comes out, we want the child ready for battle.... It is a Trojan outfit, custom-designed for the baby.”

Anne Hathaway shares pregnancy and family update

The 'Mother Mary' star is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, announcing the news in an Instagram video shared on Friday, June 19. Wearing a flowy white dress, Hathaway walked into the frame with her arms placed in front of her stomach.

As Barbara Lewis' song 'Baby I'm Yours' played, she lowered her arms to reveal her growing baby bump before smiling, hugging her stomach, and running out of the frame. She captioned the post, “x Baby, I’m yours x.”

Hathaway and Shulman are already parents to sons Jonathan and Jack. Earlier this year, she also shared a rare update on family life during an interview for Elle's Summer 2026 'The Epic Issue.'

Hathaway said her children are currently at an age where they enjoy spending time together.

“My sons are in this really fun zone where we all love hanging out together, which I understand may change,” she said, before adding with a laugh, “Well, we will always love hanging out with them, but their feelings about us might change.”

Because of that, the couple are making the most of the present. “We’re all just in it. Adam and I are soaking it up. I’m having the most wonderful time with my family, living in the city of my dreams, and work seems to be going really, really well.”
