WASHINGTON, DC: A protester named Guido Reichstadter who climbed to the top of a major bridge in Washington, DC, spoke live during the incident as authorities worked to resolve what officials described as a barricade situation.

The individual was seen positioned high above traffic on the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, prompting a large emergency response and widespread road closures. Videos circulating online showed the protester addressing viewers while standing on the structure, drawing attention to the unfolding situation.

Authorities said the incident began when the individual climbed onto the bridge, leading police to shut down lanes in both directions.

While speaking to Katie Pavlich, Guido said, “I’m calling on the people of the United States to bring an immediate end to the Trump regime’s illegal war on Iran and the removal of the regime’s power through mass nonviolent direct action and non-cooperation”

“I also want to urgently warn the people of the US and the world of the imminent danger we are in of crossing a point of no return towards the development of artificial intelligence, which poses the risk of catastrophic harm to humanity, including human extinction.”

Footage from the scene showed the protester remaining atop the structure for an extended period, at times appearing to broadcast or speak live while positioned above the roadway.

The height and visibility of the location contributed to significant public attention.

Reichstadter’s protest comes as President Donald Trump sent letters to congressional leaders informing them he would not be seeking congressional authority under the War Powers Act for the war in Iran.

Protester calls on government to take action

Police officers and fire department attempted to talk him down as he climbed the slippery platform, abandoning his shoes and socks along the way.

“I call on the governments of the world to take immediate action to end this danger by permanently banning the development of artificial general intelligence and machine superintelligence.”

“I also call on the people of the world to exert all possible influence through nonviolent action to compel their governments to end this danger with all possible speed.”

During the live moments shared online, the individual appeared to outline grievances and viewpoints, though officials did not provide details about specific demands.

Negotiators continued efforts to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.

Authorities have not released further information about how the incident ended or whether any charges will be filed. The case remains under review as officials assess the circumstances surrounding the protest.
