ANCHORAGE, ALASKA: Russian President Vladimir Putin took a jab at former President Joe Biden as he pointed the finger at him on Friday, August 15, for allowing the war with Ukraine to materialize.

Putin confirmed that if President Donald Trump were still in office at the time, back in 2022, "there would be no war."

Putin says he warned Biden that situation shouldn't progress to 'point of no return'

During remarks at a joint press conference in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, Vladimir Putin said that he had warned Joe Biden not to let the situation progress to "the point of no return when it would come to hostilities."

According to a real-time translation, the Russian leader said, "I said it quite directly back then that it's a big mistake."

"President Trump saying that if he was the president back then there would be no war, and I'm quite sure that would indeed be so, I can confirm that," Putin added.

Interestingly, Putin's comments were the ultimate flattery on an impressionable POTUS, whom he was desperately trying to keep from fully embracing Ukraine and Europe's cause.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he would have been able to use his relationship with Putin to stop Russia from invading Ukraine if he were reelected in 2020.

Biden and Putin met in June 2021 for a summit in Geneva, Switzerland, amid rising tensions between Moscow and Washington, DC.

In February 2022, Putin invaded Ukraine, beginning a deadly war that still goes on today and has left thousands dead and displaced.

Trump's negotiations with Putin seemed to be Ukraine's last chance to end the bloodshed and land grab by Russia.

The Russian leader said on Friday that having a good, trustworthy business relationship with Trump makes him confident that "we can come to see the end of the conflict in Ukraine."

However, no ceasefire was announced in their joint press conference.

At the end of his remarks, Putin said, "I have every reason to believe that moving down this path we can come to see the end of the conflict in Ukraine."

Internet divided on Putin's remarks about Russia-Ukraine war

People on the internet stayed divided and shared mixed reactions as Vladimir Putin said that if President Donald Trump were still in office, back in 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war wouldn't have happened.

One wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "This is win for Trump personally," and another said, "Now we're accepting Putin's word as confirmation? Can we sink any lower?"

A person stated, "Biden's fumble!" whereas someone else mentioned, "Trump treated foreign policy less like an ideological crusade and more like a negotiation. That meant there was always a potential “deal” to be made, lowering the incentive for a costly war."

"Putin’s acknowledgment underscores the potential impact of Trump’s leadership on global conflicts," read another tweet.
