Renee Zellweger dropped from $10M injury lawsuit as boyfriend Ant Anstead's case continues
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renee Zellweger’s name has been removed from a $10 million lawsuit filed by a house guest who alleged that she was injured at a California rental property belonging to the actress’ boyfriend, Ant Anstead.
According to TMZ, which cited court documents, Tracey Belland dropped Zellweger from the lawsuit, while the case against Anstead is ongoing.
The ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ star’s name was reportedly dismissed from the lawsuit with prejudice, meaning she cannot be sued again in the same case.
Renee Zellweger and Ant Anstead face $10M lawsuit
Belland sued the Academy Award-winning actress and the TV presenter in early 2025 over an alleged incident in 2024 that reportedly occurred when she visited Anstead’s Laguna Beach home.
According to the woman’s complaint, she visited the rental property in August 2024, where she “tripped and fell on the patio.”
She also alleged that “a thin rug had been placed over a hole,” causing her to injure her right knee. Belland further claimed that she continues to suffer “physical, economic and emotional injuries because of the fall.”
Renee Zellweger and Ant Anstead face negligence claims
The initial lawsuit named Zellweger, Anstead and the property owner, Glenn Alan Wilson, as defendants, accusing all three of negligence.
However, in June 2025, both the ‘Jerry Maguire’ actress and the motor specialist denied the allegations.
In October 2025, Wilson filed a countersuit, arguing that Anstead, the sole leaseholder of the property, was required to “maintain the residence in every way relevant to this case.”
The landlord also claimed that although Zellweger was not named on the lease, she “lived there much of the time”.
Renee Zellweger denies liability in $10M lawsuit
In response, Zellweger and Anstead issued a joint statement, arguing that the 57-year-old Golden Globe-winning actress was not on the lease and, therefore, had no duty to “inspect, repair, or warn of any condition on the premises.”
Their response also stated that Anstead, 47, as a tenant, “acted reasonably and performed all duties required of him under the rental agreement.”
Zellweger and Anstead reportedly began dating in 2021 after meeting on the set of his Discovery+ show, 'Celebrity IOU: Joyride', in April that year.
Nearly two years later, reports emerged that they had "found a house that they both love and are moving in together".
