Greg Landsman urges Joe Biden to strengthen his candidacy with 'intergity', warns 'time is running out'
WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Greg Landsman (D-Ohio) urged President Joe Biden to strengthen his candidacy for the 2024 election but reminded him that he is running out of time to solidify his appeal to voters.
Ohio’s First Congressional District representative noted in a statement, “We need to strengthen our democracy, restore reproductive freedom, and build a tax code and economy around and for working people."
Rep Greg Landsman urges Joe Biden to take immediate actions with 'character and integrity'
Emphasizing the importance of urgent action in solidifying Joe Biden's candidacy, Greg Landsman said, "We need to do it with character and integrity, pragmatism, reliability, and bipartisanship."
“These are the stakes of this election. They couldn’t be higher. President Biden has to be able to make this case clearly to the American people, again and again and again," he continued.
"Now’s the time for action, but time is running out," added Landsman.
Rep Greg Landsman's criticism of Donald Trump
Greg Landsman criticized former President Donald Trump as "unfit to be President" and described him as "an extremist and chaos machine."
The Ohio Democrat condemned Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, his stance on abortion access, and his conviction in his hush-money case on May 30.
Calling Landsman's statement an "election year stunt," Mike Marinella, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee said, “Greg Landsman thinks his voters are fools by trying to pull a phony election year stunt, and he has still yet to answer the question on everyone’s minds: ‘Is Joe Biden fit to serve as President?’ Landsman’s voters will certainly punish him this November."
Growing pressure on Joe Biden's candidacy
Following Joe Biden's shaky debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27, five House Democrats have publicly called for the president to quit the 2024 race.
During a private call on Sunday, July 7, four senior House Democrats asked Biden to withdraw his reelection campaign, according to The Hill.
However, Biden has remained firm in his stance to continue his reelection bid. In a recent fundraising email, Biden stated, "I’m the Democratic Party’s nominee. No one is pushing me out. I’m not leaving, I’m in this race to the end, and WE are going to win this election."
"If that’s all you need to hear, pitch in a few bucks to help [Vice President Harris] and me defeat Donald Trump in November," he continued.
In a letter to congressional Democrats on Monday, July 8, the president urged lawmakers to unite behind his candidacy.
“The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” he wrote.
“Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together," Biden continued.
