LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Democratic Rep Jasmine Crockett is facing backlash after she called wheelchair-bound Texas Governor Greg Abbott "Governor Hot Wheels" during a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 22.

Crockett is no stranger to controversies as she recently faced flak after calling for Tesla CEO Elon Musk to be "taken down" and for Texas Senator Ted Cruz to be "knocked in the head," Whiskey Riff reported.



 

Jasmine Crockett calls Greg Abbott 'Governor Hot Wheels'

On Saturday, Jasmine Crockett took a jibe at wheelchair-bound Greg Abbott. She said during the campaign dinner, "Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a** mess, honey."

Abbott is paralyzed below the waist after he got into a tragic accident in 1984 when a tree fell on him and has spent more than 40 years in a wheelchair, according to the outlet.

On Tuesday, March 25, Crockett denied the allegations and wrote in a post on X, "I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable."



 

Jasmine Crockett has been a US Rep from Texas' 30th congressional district since January 2023, and is currently one of the "rising stars" in the Democratic Party, according to Whiskey Riff. 

This isn't the first time that Crockett has made a controversial statement.

In mid-March, Crockett spoke at a virtual rally held for the 'The Tesla Takedown' movement, a group rallying against Musk and his efforts as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), per Politico



 

"On March 29, it’s my birthday, and all I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down," she said, before adding, "I have learned, as I serve on the DOGE Oversight committee, that there is only one language that the people that are in charge understand right now, and that language is money."

Meanwhile, she clarified during the rally that her calls for action were nonviolent, per the outlet.

Several internet users slammed Rep Jasmine Crockett after she called wheelchair-bound Greg Abbott 'Governor Hot Wheels' during a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles.

A social media user wrote on X, "What a horrible thing to say," while another remarked, "She’s openly mocking a governor who uses a wheelchair. Sickening."



 



 

One person asked, "No turn of phrase is worth making fun of a man in a wheel chair? That’s next level rude and disrespectful. I hope those in her party remind her what decorum means because this is disgraceful behavior," while another questioned, "So mocking a guy in a wheel chair is cool now? Good to know."



 



 

One netizen declared, "This is embarrassing. I never knew elected officials could use vulgarity, as if they were on Comedy Central," while another added, "She is so disrespectful, shouldn't be a member of congress."
