Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie remembers wife Rhonda as 'beautiful and wise queen' as he announces her death

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY: Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky announced the death of his wife and his high school sweetheart Rhonda in a series of heartfelt X posts on Friday, June 28.

Reflecting on their 35-year relationship, Massie shared touching memories and highlighted her accomplishments. Her passing has brought an outpouring of condolences and support for the Massie family.

Massie who shared four children with Rhonda, described her as the smartest and kindest person. It was not yet shared how she had died. 

"Yesterday my high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years, the loving mother of our 4 children, the smartest kindest woman I ever knew, my beautiful and wise queen forever, Rhonda went to Heaven," Thomas Massie wrote on X.

"Thank you for your prayers for our family in this difficult time," he added in the post.



 

In another post, Massie shared, "She was valedictorian at our high school where we went to the Prom together, accepted at MIT and Harvard, earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from MIT, and devoted her life to our family."



 

The couple had recently toured Mt Rainier with their grandson, creating cherished memories.

"We spent last week touring Mt Rainier with our grandson - she was the best mammaw ever! We love you Rhonda," Massie added in another post.



 

Political colleagues offer their condolences to Thomas Massie

Thomas Massie, known for his contrarian brand of Republicanism, has served as congressman for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District since 2012, according to Lexington Herald Leader.

The district is largely comprised of the state’s Northern Kentucky region. Massie is also a board member of the Ron Paul Institute

Massie posted a handful of old and recent photogaphs of him, Ronda and children and other family members on X, reflecting how amazing she had been as a wife and mother.

Secretary of State Michael Adams responded to the news, saying, “Rhonda Massie was a delightful person. Please join me in praying for Congressman Massie and his family.”



 

Representative Andy Barr, who has experienced a similar loss reportedly four years ago when his wife died of mitral valve prolapse, expressed his sympathy.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Rhonda Massie, the beloved wife of my friend and colleague, Thomas Massie. Rhonda’s warmth, kindness and dedication to her family and community touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her,” Barr wrote.



 

Former Congressman Rep Ron Paul and Jim Pfaff, president of The Conservative Caucus, also offered their prayers and condolences.

“It’s so hard to process this tragedy,” Pfaff wrote, adding “She was Thomas’s heart. They were best friends, fellow engineers and most of all loving spouses. My heart breaks for Thomas.”



 

Tributes pour in on social media for Rhonda Massie

People reacted with tributes on social media, expressing their condolences and sharing memories.

One person commented, "This seems silly but I loved listening to you on Tucker about building your house. She sounded like a wonderful woman. True soul mates. My heart aches for you," to which Thomas Massie replied, "She was in the studio with us when I did the interview with Tucker."



 



 

Another social media user wrote, "Beautiful and brutal. That’s life I guess. The more joyous the life you built together the harder the loss. My sincerest condolences. She sounds like absolutely amazing woman, wife, and mother. I hope you and your family have time to grieve and celebrate her. Peace be with you."



 

"Truly heartbreaking… I am so sorry for you, your children, and family. Prayers for you, Congressman!" wrote another user.

"It’s truly magical when two people find each other early in life and are so well matched. My heart aches for the sadness you are going through. Please know that our prayers are with you and your family," another tribute read.
