WASHINGTON, DC: Last summer, Rep Jasmine Crockett said Sen John Cornyn is a "real Republican" who is only acting like a "MAGA" supporter to save his seat.

These old comments are resurfacing now because Cornyn is in a tough runoff race against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Crockett’s resurfaced clip claims of a Cornyn act

During an August television appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Crockett, who recently lost her own primary bid for the seat to James Talarico, offered a surprising defense of Cornyn’s character while questioning his current political standing.

"Now listen, I’m about to tell all of MSNBC a secret," Crockett stated.

"I actually don’t hate Senator Cornyn at all. And right now, what we have is a Senator who actually is a real Republican who’s doing everything that he can to make it seem like he’s a MAGA Republican so that he can get through his primary."

Crockett had pointed to Cornyn’s bipartisan history

Crockett argued that Cornyn’s long history as a Texas Supreme Court judge and a bipartisan lawmaker shows he is not actually a hardcore MAGA politician.

She suggested that the Senator is intentionally navigating a delicate political landscape to appease a specific group of GOP voters. "But Senator Cornyn, this is not him," Crockett continued.

She stated, "This is somebody that sat on our Supreme Court in the state of Texas. This is somebody who typically works in a very bipartisan way, unlike Senator Cruz. This is somebody who is literally doing everything that he can to hopefully get some of that MAGA base."

She added, "And so Senator Cornyn knows that the FBI can’t get involved, and ain’t gonna get involved, as it relates to some little civil situation that was signed off on by the Speaker of the Texas House, but the MAGA base won’t know that."

Crockett’s words re-emerge during record-breaking runoff

The resurfacing of these remarks comes at a critical time as Cornyn is facing a very close runoff election against Ken Paxton on May 26.

In the March 3 primary, Cornyn secured approximately 42 percent of the vote, holding a thin lead over Ken Paxton’s 41 percent, while Wesley Hunt finished third with about 14 percent of the vote.

This race has become the most expensive Senate primary in history, with supporters spending over $70 million on Cornyn’s side compared to about $4 million for Paxton.

It is to be noted that President Trump has not yet endorsed in the runoff but said he plans to make a decision soon.
