LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Robert F Kennedy Jr tried to do some damage control by clarifying that his wife, Cheryl Hines, is not a Donald Trump supporter.

RFK Jr joined 'TMZ Live' on Tuesday, August 27, and revealed that Cheryl had some reservations about him suspending his presidential campaign to support Trump. Despite this, she was the one who initially brought the two candidates together.

RFK Jr says Cheryl Hines is not a Donald Trump supporter

RFK Jr told TMZ Live, "Cheryl’s reaction was the opposite of encouraging. She attended the meeting just to make sure there were no hasty decisions made." He was referring to the meeting with Trump that ultimately led to his endorsement of the GOP candidate.

He added that Cheryl is simply supporting her husband as any good wife would, and he’s grateful for all her support. Earlier in 2024, Cheryl told TMZ that their marriage would face challenges if RFK Jr accepted a cabinet position with Trump.

He added, "She urged me to [take the meeting with Trump] and she did that out of compassion. She went along with it because she loves me and she wanted to be supportive of me."

Kennedy also mentioned on 'The Tucker Carlson Show' that it wasn’t until Hines urged him to "hear Trump out" that he considered meeting with the GOP candidate. He had initially thought it would be a "non-starter" for Hines.

Bradley Whitford slams Cheryl Hines for not speaking against RFK Jr endorsing Trump

Actor Bradley Whitford criticized Cheryl Hines for not speaking out against RFK Jr after he endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, according to Fox News.

He posted on X, "Hey @CherylHines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights." [sic]

Notably, Whitford is a longtime Democrats supporter and one of many celebrities who lined up to endorse Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race.

Donald Trump appoints RFK Jr to his transition team

Donald Trump appointed RFK Jr and Tulsi Gabbard to his transition team, just days after the two endorsed him in the GOP presidential campaign, according to BBC.

The Trump campaign announced that Gabbard and Kennedy would serve as honorary transition team co-chairs, alongside Trump’s sons and running mate JD Vance.

Trump senior advisor Brian Hughes noted that the endorsements of the two former Democrats demonstrate the campaign's ability to garner support "across partisan lines."

He stated, "We look forward to having their powerful voices on the team as we work to restore America’s greatness."
