RFK Jr labeled 'clown' as he considers joining Trump administration in exchange for endorsing ex-POTUS
WASHINGTON, DC: Earlier this month, independent presidential hopeful and notorious vaccine skeptic Robert F Kennedy Jr engaged in a surprising discussion with his rival, former president Donald Trump, about potentially endorsing the ex-Republican leader.
The talks also covered the possibility of Kennedy taking on a public health role in a new Trump Administration.
Robert F Kennedy Jr and Donald Trump consider collaboration after assassination attempt
As first reported conversations between Robert F Kennedy Jr and Donald Trump kicked off just hours after a failed assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on July 13. The Washington Post cited “four people familiar with the matter.”
A call between the two men was reportedly captured on video and circulated online soon after it was recorded last week. In the clip, shared on social media by Kennedy’s son, Trump can be heard repeating unfounded vaccine claims and telling Kennedy he would “love” for him “to do stuff,” hinting at a potential White House collaboration.
The discussions included the possibility of Kennedy holding positions in a new Trump Administration, potentially in the Cabinet or other roles that do not require Senate confirmation. The talks also considered a scenario where Kennedy might drop out of the presidential race and back Trump, according to the sources.
Robert F Kennedy Jr’s suitability under scrutiny
Despite the extensive discussions, no agreement was reached, partly due to concerns among Donald Trump’s advisors about offering a job in exchange for an endorsement. Some advisors also questioned whether Kennedy’s anti-vaccine views would make him a suitable candidate for a public health role.
Kennedy seemingly confirmed the talks, stating: “All I will say to you is I am willing to talk to anybody from either political party who wants to talk about children’s health and how to end the chronic disease epidemic.”
He acknowledged that Trump had been more receptive to him than the Democratic Party, saying, “I have a lot of respect for president Trump for reaching out to me. Nobody from the DNC, high or low, has ever reached out to me in 18 months. Instead, they have allocated millions to try to disrupt my campaign.”
Robert F Kennedy Jr continues to stay in the race
Notably, Kennedy reaffirmed his commitment to his presidential bid, declaring, “We’re in it to win it.” Kennedy and Trump’s initial phone conversation occurred the night Trump was injured during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The pair later agreed to meet in person in Milwaukee last week as the Republican National Convention kicked off, The Post reported.
Amid swirling rumors about the future of his campaign after the meeting, Kennedy clarified in a post on X that “national unity” was the “main topic” of their discussion. “President Trump met with RFK and they had a conversation about the issues just as he does regularly with important figures in business and politics because they all recognize he will be the next president of the United States,” said Danielle Alvarez, a Trump spokeswoman.
