RFK Jr reveals twist in suspending his campaign and endorsing Donald Trump in 2024 race
PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Robert F Kennedy Jr announced on Friday, August 23, that he was suspending his campaign but with an unexpected twist.
While Kennedy urged his supporters in 10 critical swing states to back Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, he emphasized that his name will remain on the ballots in traditionally red or blue states.
RFK Jr's strategic withdrawal
Addressing a crowd in Phoenix, Arizona, Kennedy Jr clarified that his decision was not a complete termination of his campaign.
"I would like everyone to know that I am not terminating my campaign, I am simply suspending it and not ending it," he said.
"My name will remain on the ballot in most states," Kennedy Jr added, according to The Hill.
He expressed concern that staying in the race in key battleground states could inadvertently aid the Democratic Party with which he has significant disagreements on "existential issues."
RFK Jr's contentious campaign journey
Robert F Kennedy Jr's announcement marks the latest chapter in a tumultous 16-month campaign that has sparked several controversies and introduced unexpected elements into the political discourse, ranging from bizarre statements to controversial claims.
In his Phoenix speech, Kennedy Jr unleashed a scathing critique of the Democratic Party, accusing it of "canceling the primary to conceal the cognitive decline of the sitting president."
"I began this journey as a Democrat, the party of my father, my uncle, the party I pledged my allegiance to long before I was old enough to vote," he told the crowd.
He then claimed that the Democrats "ran a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Trump."
RFK Jr's decision to end the bid in key battleground states
Robert F Kennedy Jr revealed the reason behind his withdrawing from the 2024 race in 10 swing states.
“In my heart, I no longer believe that I have a realistic path to electoral victory in the face of this relentless, systematic censorship and media control,” the anti-vaccine activist said.
“So I cannot in good conscience ask my staff and volunteers to keep working their long hours, or ask my donor to keep giving when I cannot honestly, tell them, that I have a real path to the White House," he noted.
“In those meetings, he suggested that we join forces as a unity party,” Kennedy Jr said of his conversation with Trump.
