RFK Jr spills on Trump’s food obsession when he’s away from White House

WASHINGTON,DC: President Donald Trump’s food habits just got another behind-the-scenes reveal, this time from the man leading the administration’s health agenda.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, on Wednesday, August 12 said Trump’s meals can look very different depending on where he is.

At home, Kennedy described fresh, locally sourced food. On the road, however, the president apparently has a much more familiar option waiting for him.

RFK Jr reveals Trump’s travel diet

Kennedy made the remarks during an interview with comedian John Crist released Wednesday while discussing Trump’s eating habits and his seemingly high energy levels.

The HHS secretary did not exactly paint a picture of Trump casually browsing menus wherever the presidential plane lands.

“When you get on his airplane, it’s just boxes and boxes of McDonald’s,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy was quick to make clear that he was not describing Trump’s entire diet.

“President Trump actually eats really good food, most of the time,” he said. The difference, according to Kennedy, comes when Trump is traveling.

The president prefers familiar national chains because he worries about getting sick from food at smaller, unfamiliar restaurants, Kennedy said.

Away from the road, Kennedy offered a very different description of what ends up on Trump’s plate.

At Mar-a-Lago and the White House, Kennedy said, Trump gets what he considers the best food, including fresh produce and locally sourced ingredients.

“It’s all fresh produce. It’s a lot of his locally sourced, so he’s eating good food most of the time,” Kennedy said.

Crist then put Kennedy in an awkwardly obvious position. Given Kennedy’s public push for healthier eating, does he ever tell Trump that his own food choices are not exactly helping?

Kennedy’s response was blunt and playful. “No, I’m not a scold!” he said.

Kennedy says Trump is a 'super-ager'

Kennedy also offered his own explanation for how Trump appears to maintain his energy despite the diet he had just described.

“Some people can just eat anything, they're called super-agers. I think President Trump is one of those,” Kennedy said.

He brought up Dana White, saying White had told him he had never seen Trump drink water.

“He just drinks Diet Coke, but he's got more energy than anybody I've ever met,” Kennedy said.

So Kennedy’s picture of Trump’s diet is not quite the fast-food-only image that has followed the president for years.

Trump and McDonald's have a long history

Trump’s affinity for McDonald’s is hardly new. During the 2024 campaign, he made his relationship with the chain part of his public persona when he worked the fry station and served customers.

More recently, RNC Chairman Joe Gruters recalled seeing McDonald’s waiting for Trump aboard his plane during the 2024 campaign.

Gruters said Trump had hot fries, a Filet-O-Fish, a Quarter Pounder and a Big Mac, adding that he believed Trump combined two of the sandwiches.

There is also the older campaign-era account from former aides David Bossie and Corey Lewandowski, who described a much-publicized McDonald’s order of two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches and a chocolate malted.

Their account also described McDonald’s, KFC, pizza and Diet Coke as the staples aboard 'Trump Force One.'

At the McDonald’s Impact Summit in November 2025, Trump had even called himself one of the chain’s 'all-time most loyal customers.'
