WASHINGTON, DC: Secretary of State Marco Rubio got a funny answer when the conversation turned to Robert F Kennedy Jr’s famously strict diet.

During a teaser for Katie Miller’s upcoming podcast episode featuring Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, the secretary of state appeared to distance himself from Kennedy’s food habits, especially the constant supply of sauerkraut that has become part of the health secretary’s routine.

Rubio initially appeared ready to declare his support for Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” campaign.

“I’m in favor of MAHA—like, I think people should be healthy,” Rubio said.

His wife immediately had a different take.

“No, he is not,” Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio interrupted.

That set Rubio off into a much more direct explanation of where he stands on Kennedy’s food choices.

“I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut,” Rubio said with exasperation.

Kennedy has made his diet part of his wider push for healthier eating.

His food routine is heavy on meat and fermented vegetables, with sauerkraut reportedly being a regular part of his meals.

Kennedy’s wife, actress Cheryl Hines, has previously joked about how difficult it can be to escape the smell of the fermented cabbage.

“When I walk in, people say, ‘What’s that smell?’ Don’t worry about it. It’s my husband’s dinner,” Hines said on Miller’s podcast last year.

Rubio, meanwhile, appears to have no interest in making sauerkraut a travel companion.

The secretary of state is also not among several other Trump administration figures who have reportedly followed the diet associated with Dr Sean O’Mara.

In June, The Wall Street Journal reported that Vice President JD Vance, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy had adopted parts of the routine.

The diet also includes foods such as kimchi and grass-fed steak while avoiding alcohol and sugary foods.

The unusual food choices have reportedly even caused some “domestic friction.”

Kennedy has also been taking his food campaign beyond the Cabinet room.

Earlier this month, the health secretary launched his own cooking show, where he encouraged families to prepare meals that he described as both healthy and “affordable.”

Kennedy claimed the meal featured in the first episode would cost less than $5 per serving.

However, Washington Post columnist Monica Hesse later tested the claim by purchasing the ingredients herself and calculated the cost at closer to $18 per serving.
