LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rob Lowe has presented himself as the perfect running mate of presumptive Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris.

The 60-year-old actor pitched himself for the office while referring to his works in the 1983 movie ‘The Outsiders’, NBC's political hit drama ‘The West Wing’, and the 1999 miniseries ‘Atomic Train’, as reported by ET Online.

Rob Lowe claims to have capability to ‘stop a nuclear threat’

On 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', host Jimmy Fallon spoke about how Kamala Harris does not have much time to pick her vice presidential nominee. Rob Lowe then said, "Alright fine Jimmy, I'll do it."

While Lowe threw his hat in the ring and "volunteered" to become Harris' running mate, Fallon reminded him that this was not how things worked.

"I get that but I'm really past the stage in my career where I audition for things," said Lowe and added, "I know how it works, Jimmy. I was in 'The West Wing'."

He then went on to audition for the role of vice president of the country saying, "America, I’m not like the others. There’s no greater outsider than the person who starred in 'The Outsiders'. I can adapt to any situation.”

“I can be comedic, like in 'Tommy Boy'. Dramatic, like in 'St Elmo’s Fire'. Or stop a nuclear threat, like in 'Atomic Train'. So, remember — when they go high, we go Lowe, spelled with an E!” he asserted.

Lowe is not actually running for the vice president's role alongside Kamala Harris, who became the most probable choice following Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race, but there are some potential candidates whose names have been speculated.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona are some of the leaders Harris may consider.

Joe Biden says it’s time to ‘pass the torch to a new generation’

President Joe Biden on Sunday, July 21, announced that he won’t be running again for the White House.

Also, in a statement on Wednesday night, July 24, he said, “I revere this office but I love my country more. It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your President. But in defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it’s more important than any title.”

Biden further stated, “I believe my record as President, my leadership in the world, my vision for America’s future all merited a second term."

“But nothing—nothing—can come in the way of saving our democracy, and that includes personal ambition. The best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation," he added.

Internet reacts as Rob Lowe auditions for role of vice president

Rob Lowe’s hilarious pitch has received a lot of attention online, with a person on X tweeting, “I’d vote for him, can’t be worse than a lot of them.”

The second person wrote, “From TV drama to real-life ambition! Rob Lowe's journey is definitely one to watch. 📺🇺🇸 #WestWing.”

“Wasn’t he somehow also involved in small-town politics in Pawnee, Indiana?? I forget the plot but he can’t neglect that from his resume!!” a YouTube user commented.

Another user said, “I’d love Rob Lowe as my president. Come on it’s soda pop and Chris trager.”

The third one shared, “I'll vote for Rob Lowe.”

The fourth user mentioned, “Eh, I don't know.  While I'm sure it would be interesting, I don't know how a Harris/Lowe ticket would work out. He gave it his best shot. Seriously though, it seems like he's tried all sorts of different genres of TV or movies throughout his career. I'm trying to think what he hasn't done yet, but should.”

“Rob Lowe would probably be a better president candidate than Harris,” the fifth one added.
